@HomeDistiller I didn't measure the current draw during the pumping of water unfortunately, though it should be in the 3A range for the 1000gph pump. I plan on filling these motors with mineral oil to help with cooling and also help exclude water, so I am not terribly concerned about the heating. Additionally these were static load tests, I'm anticipating that once the vehicle is up to speed, thruster output can be decreased to maintain movement.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into alternative propulsion methods for my small open sailboat. I just think that the comparison propeller vs. regular bilge pump output is not completely fair since it's two different propulsion methods. In order to get a proper reading for the original bilge pump output, you would have to put the nozzle at surface level. This way it is able to put out its full propulsion potential. Just compare holding a garden hose in a bucket. With the end of the hose completely submerged you will experience less thrust than with the opening on surface level. I'm eager to find out what the difference in reading will be in that setup.

what was the A on the pump when you emptied the tank? (ie the normal amp draw as it was designed) you have doubled the amp draw thats not good in a housing that wont cool the motor very well.. also you might want to try and run the motor for awhile till it does warm up then let it cool underwater, the air will expand as it heats and it might leak past the seals then as it cools it could suck in water..

Actually, ducting the flow is not necessarily increase overall performance.....However, I does increase thrust at certain range of inflow velocity.

What is the 1000 gph bilge pump you used, what is the shaft diameter of the motor, and where did you buy the collet for mounting the propeller

What is the exactly propeller type that you used? Is it can be used on other bilge pump? And, what is the best bilge pump to provide big thrust (I don't care about amps)? Thanks for your help,

Not super deep without mods, but a common enough way is to drill 2 holes (inlet and vent), and fill with low viscosity silicone oil and plug with rubber stoppers. Filling with an incompressible fluid increases the max depth, and improves heat transfer at a slight performance hit.
