Roval Alpinist CL II: Lightweight, mid price, road wheel heroes?

My mates and I have been riding Roval's Alpiniste CL II lightweight climbing wheels all summer - including a quad Ventoux day to get them started. Turns out they're a really well sorted, all round daily driver wheel not just for altitude gain specialists too. So what are the details and how do they ride?

I just sold my Rapide cl ii for a set of CLX alpinist, fantastic sale prices about making them nearly 400 quid cheaper than the CL alpinists (don't care about tubeless tbh)..... for me the Alpinists are a better wheelset in every way to CL Rapides, and i sware they actually feel faster on my everyday roads/conditions.I dont get it. Areo spokes and hubs cant make that much difference can the? either that or just a better fit for the bike. Either way I'm with you their great wheel.

Definitely a very noticeable difference. The aluminum R470 wheels that come on the comp use a generic hub that won't roll as smoothly, the Alpinist weigh about 450 grams less (at the most important place for weight), and the stiffness and compliance are much more tuned on the Alpinist. Probably the biggest upgrade you could make on that bike, given the frames low weight.

Yep. DT Comp Race. Lighter than Comp but about 25g heavier for the wheelset than if they’d used Aerolite.
