Great video, and scenery and a really nice car as well. I think those rover shop floor peoples were really hoping someone would step in and take the company over in the eleventh hour. It must of been awful knowing you were going to be out of work soon but trying to carry on as normal knowing the management (Phoenix) was about to run off with their pockets full of BMW's money. A sad tale indeed, but testimony to the shop floor for not giving up.

@@ProjectNigel Couldn't agree with you more. I don't think people realise how much the British manufacturing base has been degraded especially in the automotive industry. What's left is foreign owned. But also its the smaller businesses that were affected to, there was a lot of machine tool companies all around the Birmingham area mainly supporting Rover I wonder how many are left I guess they still have Tatta to support. In my previous life I got to visit Longbridge a lot as well as Dagenham. The latter always looked on its knees huge holes in the factory floor where machines used to be. All part of Ford's movement to Germany. But Longbridge always looked industrious a hive of industry in the 90s. Gone where the days of industrial unrest, the shop floor guys were proud of their work it always seemed, I remember the Ķ series line coming on stream and Rover were very proud to show it off. I never thought 15years after my last visit it would be gone like it never existed.

This would have been the perfect late night release video, the excitement of a enthusiastic test drive through spectacular scenery in a car that makes nice noises followed by the soporific nonsense from 10 minutes onwards to send you off to sleep. And you posted it at lunchtime, which I suppose is appropriate if you live in the Iberian peninsula or it’s former colonies.

That model and engine must have been every salesman nightmare to sell new, who would buy it ? Most Rover owners would run a mile from the V6 preferring the asthmatic 1.4 . Ford and Vauxhall had much better V6 cars at the time . Maybe a caravanner? Anyways good vid and good example of bangernomics 👍.

@@Mr_Boatythe 45 V6 has a conventional Jatco torque converter automatic, the steptronic cvt gearbox was only available as on option on the 1.8.
@Mr_Boaty
@Mr_Boaty 11 ай бұрын
@@BartMGRX the 45 V6 does have a Jatco box, but this is allied to the BMW Steptronic system offering sequential shifting. Of course the system was later renamed Stepspeed on MG/Rover after the sale of the marque. Steptronic was also allied to the CVT boxes, but CVT could not be used on the V6 as they were unable to cope with the power.

The KV6 generally was all shout but no go. The 2.5 in an MG ZS is a bit of a hoot though, feel like the auto probably makes the laziness even worse.

Boaty does talk a lot sh1t sometimes. It's all subjective but a Mk1 Focus or a Pug 306 (depending on what year you consider 400/45 chassis) both run rings around it, and don't rattle like a tube of Smarties. And that cvt gearbox, with its pre selector gears, is a world away from modern DSG/dual clutch transmissions. A 'booted' 45 with the Cosmos alloys does look great though!

@@Mr_Boaty Sorry, Steptronic. Apparently when fitted to the 75 the 0-60 was 10.8 sec. The manual box's time was 9.6 sec. 🤔

@@SteveDull Steptronic never was fitted in the 75. In fact now I think of it I think the non-CVT Steptronic is unique to the 45 V6 within MG/Rover…

It's a five speed conventional automatic. The CVT was on the 1.8 models.

By the way, I have driven three Mark I Focuses and a 306, and they drive well, but I don't think that they are that much better than one of these, but it's all down to personal preference in the end, really, and it's very hard to be objective about such things, so it doesn't really matter.

A somewhat philosophical question came to mind - is a celebrity KZbinr still a celebrity if one has never heard of them? 🤔 I suppose it takes us back to if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it does it still make a noise? Well contrary to popular belief, being of a scientific bent my contention is that it doesn't due to the perception of sound only existing in the mind of the perceiver. However, if one were to consider if nobody is there listening to Boaty, would he continue to scale ever increasing heights of verbosity? In that instance, the answer would be almost certainly yes! 😁
