Many were surprised and probably glad it took so long. Lots of people lost their jobs and the engineers at MGR were really truly very talented - but throughout the years they were never given the cash or respect that the should have been deserved to get the job done properly. Many now work for Ricardo and the Roewe 550

Ha, funny to find this here. It's the original British Dealer Launch film with a German voice over we did in 1998. The Rover 75 is a very good car. That's the way the car was planned, not as yellow wannabe MG. Thanks for posting this.

Rover 200/25 is not of Honda design, though the original floorpan was to have been used. Fortunately the Pug 306 was launched and the engineers were allowed to re-evaluate the rear section to the chassis. The 400/45 is Honda, but features full front and rear independent suspension - and is far more tunable than the other models.

@Stogrin Hey. My first car was a 45 and I now own a 75. If your a good driver, it doesn't matter if it's your first or second. This car is confortable, fun to drive, a bit heavy at the first two gears but pretty responsive beyond the 40, 50 klmh. Mine's a silver CDT with the BMW engine (2.0 with 113HP) and I couldn't be happier... :) If the deal is good, GO FOR IT!

Im waiting for my check to clear at the dealers. Mines a cdt club on a W reg (2000) full service history and although the colour wasnt my first choice (gold) im going to run it for a few months and then try to get a low milage model in Wedgewood Blue (1st choice,or Black 2nd choice) Such style, class, comfort, and most of all ECONOMY,it is cheeper to run than a Mondeo,3 series BMW,Audio etc etc.

@miguelmf . hi thanks for the info, My instructor is very happy with my driving- even in the recent bad weather we have had. I have read up on some of the issues with these cars so i know what to look for. But then all cars have things we have to deal with.

It was later found out that Walkinshaw was using the money to fund his floundering Arrows racing team, instead of developing the RDX60... You see the theme here. Poor management and lack of available cash investment by every single owner. The rot set in from BL, right through to the Phoenix four and that is why MGR finally collapsed in 2005.

Second, The K-series was not developed further in anticipation that the Hams Hall developed common engine was to take place of the next R45 and 3-series replacements. Following the split, it was realised that K-series developments had been strangled quite severely over the years BMW was in charge. Some of the technology on the then new common engine was a simplified development of the VVC technology of the K - numerous other manufactures have copied elements of this engine- most notably Toyota.

Unfortunately, Rover Group, read the market wrong and placed these cars cars above their ideal market sector. The problem was severely compounded by BMW, firstly they totally mis-read the fact that Rover was a large-volume producer, similar in line to Alfa ROmeo and Volvo, and in wanting to preserve exclusivity, BMW held back sales of the cars. this resulted in loss of revenue, loss of profit and reduced ability to develop further.

...you see is the car that should have been produced - not the monstrosity that the MGR 'committee' selected. I only wonder what could have been if they had been given the right amount of investment and the right direction.

I've been told that the earlier models[up to 2002] had more goodies and that later years they charged extra for the same items . For example you don't see many if any with sun roofs. My Connoisseur [2001] came with the lot ! I may be braggin' but I am the owner of one of the most beautiful cars ever built in it's class, and comfort WOW.myself I've had to acquire a new wardrobe, two hats , an Irish tartan peaked cap, and a Norfolk Broads tweedy soft trilby, both genuine. lucky enough my lovely grandma 55 years ago bought me a Paisley pattern yellow Sammy scarf for my 21st, still in good nick, I use it as a cravat . Now all I'm after is a pair of ' yella gloves like lonny donigan borrowed from his Dad. tata, pun intended Tosh the Toff

Third, a schedule for model replacement was executed and designs for the RDX60 were in place. Here in lies the rub. Unfortunately Kevin Howe messed things up by pursuing other worthless projects such as the MGSV and ZTV8, MG Sport etc, neither were any good and made losses - TWR went bust..
