You've been waiting oh so patiently for it, so here it is; episode two of the Rover 827 hedge find restoration. We get the old beast up on the lift and start cleaning, stripping and replacing components. It doesn't quite go to plan, but hey, that's real world project car life for you. The main thing is, we made some solid progress. Once we had sorted out all the rust and the big holes and damage and so on. Oh yeah, and WE GOT THE OLD THING RUNNING. Which was nice.

A delight seeing such care being taken with an extremely rare car. What you have revealed is that Rover cars were of a quality at odds with the common perception. When finished this car will be an absolute delight. Thank you for your commitment.

Seeing all the crud and grime coming out of the wheel-arches to reveal pristine painted metal behind, I'm struck by the thought that this isn't just a car, it's a ruddy time machine! The 800 is a car I'd never have considered hugely desirable, but it’s just astounding how good this one is, absolutely astonishing. You know the old fairy tales about finding an abandoned castle or manor house buried in the woods, overgrown and cobwebbed but otherwise as the day it was frozen in time? That's what this car is.

Thank you so much for this video. I've laid here in my pants watching it (without making bad comments i might add) and completely unwound after a busy week at work. The painting of the suspension with Hammerite reminded me of doing exactly the same on my first car, a Vauxhall Chevette, in 1987. Your video took me back to doing car stuff with my late Dad when I started driving and that sir has made me happy. Seriously, thank you. 😊

Great video Chris. Looking forward to the timing belt episode. My old man had an 827 Sterling on an E plate, we attempted to do the belt at 140k, took about 4 hours to see it (IIRC) and we ended up turning the motor and inspecting every single tooth and left the original (?) on. The car eventually died when it lightly hit a fallen tree, the bodywork was so shot by then it was a write off, engine had 220k and still silky smooth.

This is great stuff! I've been virtually reliving some of the similar stuff I've done in years gone by on my old Rover 820, Mini Cooper and various other cars by watching this :) I can relate to the Hammerite smell; I made myself quite ill by painting a Mini subframe indoors as it was raining outside. OMG the fumes, they hurt my head...

Made me chuckle when you said..fighter..about the brake disc. Back in 2005 I got hold of a 220 gti turbo hatchback and it was a nightmare to work on.. Everything required lots of heat to free up stuff, She fought me for months until sorted but then I had a weapon. The first car I had that would pull a 150 and pop the rev limiter! Best fun I've ever had. She got stolen and I got an awful payout. Miss her ability to woop evos and imprezas. Keep up the good work..I love rovers.

I wonder if those shocks are gas and the original are oil. Gas ones are always pushed out as far as they can go until the weight of the car is on them. Oil ones the piston will slowly sink to the bottom of the shock if you pull them out and let go.

Love the realism, wanting things fantastic and limited budget don’t necessarily line up so the compromise is doing the very best you can within the realms of the available budget. Things very often go wrong, usually found after fitting the supposedly correct part but that’s just fixing stuff lore. Looking forward the the next thrilling instalment.

The Starling has left the building, stupid really but shows your both human. Love the story so far and in my limited experience low mileage cars are much easier to work on but you normally pay for it in the purchase price. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment, hopefully you'll get the right shocks this time and your right who looks that closely. Check out Bilt Hamber’s anti corrosion range. Car cleaning products with inhibitors as well as restoration products. A bath of Deox C solution would be perfect for brackets, suspension arms and restore them back to pure clean steel, even those solid seized calipers, making anything ripe for a rebuild and a fresh coat of their hi zinc primer. Not a promo, but a high satisfied user! Carry on the great work.
