Rover SD1 2400 SD Turbo Diesel - Video 101 rear axle clean, half shaft removal, seals, prep paint.

Part 101
Started cleaning up the rear axle. Removed the half shafts so that i could get at the rear tube seals. Also removed the input shaft or pinion seal ready for a new one. De-greased lost of stuff and the Spitfire flew over too!

I don't usually recommend stuff but for degreaaing try Screw fix 'no nonsense degreaser' cheap and very good for jobs like this. 👍

@@colinfuller2271 it's even good for overalls, good splash in a bucket of hot water, leave soak for 20 mins and then into the washer. One of the few new products that actually works 👍

We've never found an effective first time degreaser, we now use Jizer Degreaser with a stiff alloy wheel brush. This is the most effective way we have found so far. Jizer is expensive but works best for our workshop. We tend to apply the night before and again the next day and the transformation is tremendous.

It's too late now probably but I bet Bilt Hambers Surfex HD would've removed that grease. That stuff diluted even to 10:1 is ridiculously strong stuff, so if you used it neat I'd say it would've made short work of that grease.

One things for sure it'll be THE CLEANEST Diesel when it's all said and done. And then...... you can go out and buy another one 😉🚗🚙🤑! Pity that Spitfire couldn't be more useful.......he could go and straith the Houses of Parliament 🔥💥🔥💥 🛫✈️ (!!).

You might be better off using some sort of liquid industrial de-greaser and just persevering with your scraper and old cloths. We use 20 ltr blue plastic bottles of the stuff at work supplied by 'Trent Lubricants'. Its a clear liquid with a slightly 'orangy' aroma and a consistancy a bit like neat bleach. As far as I'm aware its non toxic, you obviously just need to protect your hands

Have you tried Dasty classic degreaser. It is made in Italy and available to us in Europe. I think is is also to be found in the UK too. It is great for lifting fat and oils form everything from kitchen pans to engine bays.

I commented on this last time - there's a leak on the hose or inside the machine, the poor thing keeps turning on to try to maintain pressure that keeps dropping rapidly. Needs some TLC and it'll be good again! :-)
