Years ago we had a 2.6 manual box. Had to have the cam bed rebuilt because it got starved of oil. Lad who did the job found a small plastic valve in the bed that had got blocked that caused it. Missed it first time, rebuilt it, fired it up and had to do it again!! Valve was something like 10p!

Good one Phil, this looks a seriously decent prospect. Perfect daily.

Nice-looking base to start with in a good colour too. It's nice to see the 2600 getting some attention for a change...

@@peakclassiccars just saw part two, sad news the cam is shot and the head gasket has gone too. Will you be doing a bit of tuning on the engine while you have the top end apart. As in bit of gas flowing porting? May be a hotter cam?? Keep up the good work !

@@peakclassiccars years ago you could buy a cam for these - I think kent made them. You could also get a six branch manifold.

~CL is a Norwich/Norfolk plate. Chances are it was bought/registered at Mann Egerton in Norwich. The wheels look like late VdP wheels. Late S wheels were the same but not painted/enamelled in dark grey.

Love SD1’s and remember that colour too. Would love one myself, but never had a garage to store one and I would hate to leave it outside to potentially rust to death! The 2600 was always a great compromise back int he day between running costs and power.my dad had a white series one 2600, loved it even with the obligatory 70’s brown interior!

20 years ago that would have gone over the weighbridge. At last people have realised what a nice steer they are - I am glad the prices have risen and it's not just fords. Sadly there are'nt many left now.

A 1983 2600S..!! you're showing your age there Phil.!. I'm still struggling to get past Series 1's. Because the more 'naked' they are the more l like them. These things really are a 70's / 80's boy's own dream classic car by now. The main thing is that it's a 2600 and although not everybody want's to agree with us, it's time to try and champion the 2600 just a little bit. Very good to talk to you today. I will try not to bombard you with too much WhatsApp but at least you know I'm as big a fan as you are and want to help out where I can. It actually looks really good inside that cam-carrier. I'm well keen to see you how you get it turning.. Best Will.

The Police car has a Gold Seal engine. They were the BL service exchange engines, so might be the original was replaced under warranty.

Loved my 2600S only issues were it snapped the gearbox mount and it caught fire due to the central locking

I enjoyed watching your previous SD1 vids - I have shared much of the same heartache/water ingress as you. I know on mine I really need the windscreen out and any rust in there fixed, but consensus is the screen will probably crack on the way out and cost several thousand to fix. You didnt seem too worried about your screen being replaced....what did it cost you? and who did you take it to???:) Also just as a point of interest-mine is a 2600 - get a new FASD it transformed mine and is an unbelievably smooth engine. It wasnt expensive and so long as you know how to tune the third carb its meant to be really reliable.

I don't blame you for your addiction to SD1s. If I were a younger man, I would be the same. What the world needs is electric SD1s. Hopefully the tooling to make new SD1s is still with the Indians. Otherwise, I wonder how much of an SD1 could be made from Carbon fibre. A fifteen centimetre deep battery tray may be sufficient for the batteries, without changing the car too much.
