Good oil Comma X-Flow. Used it in my Fiesta ST for 8 years, I put over 90k miles on that thing before I sold it. Good quality products from Comma to be fair.

banging away nicely on all 5 cylinders! Do you think in twenty yrs time there will be Tesla barn finds where someone is outside with a blowtorch resoldering battery modules in the rain and bonding in carbon fibre sills and wings with hairdryers! 🤣

My brother had 2 Sd1 in Florida. All auto with the early flapper fuel injection 80 and 81 . Usual issues, rusty fuel tank, crappy self levelling in the rear. Had the same wheels as your green car. People thought it was a Ferrari.

I know you like rovers but like all cars it must have most of it earth's so instruments, to alternative are working to its best, we had a rover v8 which had bad earth's which gave us big problems like you said a little rusty in area's that might need a great earth from engine to body. We traced all and after that the car ran for year's trouble free until the rust took over itching it was scrapped for other rover owner's to use the good remaining part's

Surprisingly good results out of the engine. I know what you mean about mechanics cars - every mechanic I see always drives the biggest POS. Now I do all my own repairs I do understand to some degree. If this was a rolling repair it might be worth chancing it with this engine after some remedial works. But given its going on the rotisserie and being sold I suppose some major engine work might as well get done if you have to fetch it out anyway.
@nitrosilvia
@nitrosilvia Жыл бұрын
Yeah it really because I don’t know when the restoration will start proper and I need to be able to drive the car around so it’s not always blocking the garage, otherwise I’d not have botherdd
@joeedwards627
@joeedwards627 Жыл бұрын
Why are you changing the oil?
@nitrosilvia
@nitrosilvia Жыл бұрын
I want to be able to drive this car around the driveway and didnt like the idea of relying on old oil as although this engine will come apart, the more i look after it now the less work i will need to do in the future. Total of £27 to do it so a no brainer
@dolebandit9942
@dolebandit9942 Жыл бұрын
Is not all this all a bit pointless if the engine is coming out ?
@nitrosilvia
@nitrosilvia Жыл бұрын
Sort of, but I didn’t know what it was like inside. I need this car running and mobile until it comes apart as it’s blocking access to the rest of the garage. So it needs to be shunted around a lot and I don’t want to doing that on 10 year old crappy fuel and condensation filled oil

Seeing the state of the SD1s that you've resurrected I feel so bad about sending my old 2600 VdP off to the scrappers back in '96. I'd even put a new crank on it and 2600-pistons as the worn crank was, I found out, from a 2300 that had been transplanted in it, so I bought a new crank & shells, installed it, found that it wouldn't turn 360 degrees, realised that it must be a 2300, so went to a scrappers 15 miles away to dismantle a 2600 for its pistons, which took all day, then took the head off my 2300 engine to turn the 2300 into a 2600. I got it running again but I kind of lost interest in it after all that and sold it to a breakers... bought a Saab 900 Turbo 16 instead.
@nitrosilvia
@nitrosilvia Жыл бұрын
No way that’s a lot of work to do to lose interest but I totally get it. I think that Saab would have been cool. I think that engine has ties to rover too

@@nitrosilvia You're right, it was a lot of work to do upfront to get rid of it. I also had a Triumph 2500 PI at the time and didn't have the space to keep cars off road as well as tha daily. Was quite ill with Crohn's at the time too, so much of the weekend was spent resting. Yes, that Saab had the Triumph-based engine in it. I think that Triumph should have used their Turbo engine in the Dolomite and TR7 !
