This video has saved my 01 pt cruiser's life, thank you! Very detailed instructions. Timing belt broke and valves were ruined. Other shadetree guys where doing stuff all wrong and crying how hard it is to work on but if u know what your doing then its nowhere near as hard.

Interesting mine threw the timing belt off and i just put a new one on all was well I thought they were non-interference engines

With my 2.4's, the water pumps failed around 80,000, so the timing belt got changed at the same time.

in theory the tensioner pin could be used to check for proper tension of the belt prior to removal unless the belt stretches over time. possibly at the start of replacement you could push back against the tensioner pulley to line up the holes and slide the pin into it. might be a time saver, i dunno.

I have a loud cold start knocking sound. Quiets a lot when at operating temp. Balance chain loose? Mine is in a 2004 Jeep TJ 2.4L Powertech.

switch to synthetic oil. its probably valve tran wear.

Ive seen that timing belt break at 90k..

The Haynes manual i have suggests replacement at 90k miles.

Miles is just a Ballpark. Hours is really how things should be rated for replacement. Remember the 3000 miles and 30,000 miles service guidelines for severe service? Keep doing that and your engine will be trouble free. Same with 100,000 mile overhauls in a typical daily commute city driving. I got 21 years of driving out of my PT cruiser and the car pretty much paid for itself and made it almost 22 years before major engine mechanical failure. And I'm pretty sure that's either the heads, timing belt OR the Balance shafts. Damn sure the block and pistons are doing okay and could do more service if needed. I don't give a damn about MPG. So thicker oil is fine by me. And using a Block heater in the winter time has really paid off. Never let the dipstick go bellow the "F" never let the coolant go even a bit short and you'll probably have a car that last well over 500,000 miles Grant it if you take care of all the maintenance issues. when I store my car's? It's either Evans coolant or I just use straight up synthetic oil in the cooling system if I'm going to store it for a really long time. everyone talks about cooling issues. but I've never had one. and after I did it I never had a water pump fail due to corrosion or impeller erosion. I wouldn't do this in the salt belt but for me it works just fine

so the 06 pt GT with HO 2.4 in not an "interference motor"? if the timing belt breaks the engine wont be destroyed?

Its a 50 / 50. Its made as to NOT too, but things still happen.
