Brilliant series so far. The camera 'work' must've been very novel for the day. I particularly like the segue shots. For my money the lady with the manual 405 has the best drivers' car by a long chalk. I bet she ended up glad she didn't buy the 605, especially come trade in time !

It's really a documentary about relationships which are partly dead, and the subject of cars has been an albeit inconvenient ' vehicle ' for them to analyse their failing relationships; something which, for temporary convenience, such as for having lives which are spared the trouble of separating, they shall delay, but not, I'm sure, avoid. The emergency siren at 16' was, maybe, an unintentional metaphor.

I do like this series alot however the narrative does get a bit overly down beat ie the characters are either nagging and sniping, or bragging in a kind of awful Alan Partridge one upmanship way, but never seemingly content with their lot. It's all on a very materialistic superficial level... keeping up with the Jones's ...bigger is better... concerns with outward appearances... cliched sexism etc but I concede it probably was the era for this mentality. That said they are riveting and impressively (immaculately ?)shot and edited. The same series covered people in their houses I remember... they always had the unique hallmark of the partakers signatures at the end Thanks for uploading!

I just want to address something here. I've noticed a couple of idiots here seem to think that these people were "paid actors" - That is a load of toss. As someone who actually lived in 1992/1993 and was conscious of the time. This is actually called a "documentary". Documentaries are factual programmes using real people and in this case, understanding the motorist and how they feel about thier cars. This requires talking to real people, not "actors". They were likely to have been paid a paltry amount for thier time. Documentaries were very popular in the early 90s, theu were like a soap but withoit actors, sets and scripts. And it was documentaries like this that eventually paved the way for these so-called "reality" shows that are popular today.
