I met Him once when I was working in hospitality, he was one of the nicest people I ever met. I was never, and am still not, a fan of his comedy, but that's just preference, however, I knew after speaking with him that it was his alter ego and his job to be slapstick and comedic so it's all good! His true personality was shy and reserved, he didn't feel comfortable with people noticing him and made efforts for the team to be discreet and not make a fuss. I chatted to him about all kinds, and he was so polite, very genuine, and was grateful that we accommodated him. Honestly, he was a joy to get to know.

Good for Atkinson that he was himself and didn't see the need to get the maximum number of laughs in this interview. Fascinating to see how his skits and material are so intricately planned by his analytical, perfectionist mind.

Its because he is from the North East of England. My wife is from Newcastle and there is a character in Blackadder who is a young woman who pretends to be a man called 'Bob'. Blackadder falls in love with her of course and keeps saying 'so.... Bob". My wife can say it exactly the way he says "Boff" or "Bob" and it cracks me up every time she does because it is just funny and only so because of the bit of North East accent hiding there.

The Video Tape department engineers in the TV Centre basement basically stopped work on all other programmes and watched the studio feed of the rehearsals and then the final take. Far too intelligent to be a politician. I remember at high school that some of us made judgements (sorry) about other pupils, the really very thick ones (sorry), and we decided that they'd either be actors or politicians (sorry). We made the same judgements about the totally awful, scheming, untrustworthy, lying parasites that we met. We predicted that they'd all become Labour MPs. A large number of them did, funnily enough.

If you mean that you've never seen the Blackadder series (there are four set in different historical periods), you MUST see them. I would recommend that you begin with series 2 or 3 rather than at the beginning. The first series is fun, but it really is hard to see the action. (I suppose they were trying to convey the darkness of the period, but it is hard to see the action sometimes. Also, the sound isn't that great either.) I would watch series 4 last. Just my 2 cents There were three specials, too. You MUST see it all. (If you have seen them, you will know exactly why I am so insistent. It is absolutely brilliant.)
