The only thing the C2 Machine measures is the work you put into it. Calories, watts, min per 500m, different damper settings, they are all just different ways of expressing the amount of energy you are transferring to the machine. You may want to change your technique depending on the distance (or time) required for the event but that's about it. Get good at your technique and your training will bring results.

Just so you know mate in rowing you push not pull. Push with the legs and you'll generate more power than pulling with the arms

It makes no difference. You will do as many calories going slow and hard versus fast and soft. The reason why you only see 1 calorie per stroke is because the calories only go up 1 calorie at a time and not 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. If the units are in decimals then you would see it go up on the recovery, just as you do when meters are measured. Remember, the fly wheel is still moving on the recovery. If you experiment with 2 different styles you will get the same calories. Check out Dark Horse Rowing, he says the same thing.

Make sure you shift your weight onto the footplate as your rushing up the slide do this by rocking your body over more and it will give you more control on the recovery

as other people have said it actually is still generating calories as long as the flywheel is moving you're just not seeing it update because it has to calculate...

I'm sorry this is the worst attempt at coaching rowing. Rowing well is rowing well. It doesn't matter what matrix you are using to score energy output. Row well and you will have good energy output. Yes you continue to accumulate calories on your recover. Yes you can have a calorie roll over when you aren't in the middle of the drive. Don't change your damper, don't change your technique just continue to row well. The only thing that you would change would be your strategy because rowing for calories rewards rowing harder more than rowing for meters does because when rowing for meters the computer is calculating the drag created by water which increases as your speed increases.

Based on your calorie per pull theory, If I am rowing let's say 1400 to 1500, at 24 strokes per minute (SPM) where I'm getting roughly 1 calorie per pull I would be getting 24 calories per minute. What If I were to increase that stroke rate to 30 strokes per minute, keeping that 1400, shouldn't be getting 30 calories per minute? When I'm pulling for meters, I want strong pulls but a lower stroke rate because the flywheel is still spinning (traveling) while I'm taking my sweet ass time getting back to the pulling position.

What damper setting did u use ? .. I used to use 9 or 10 .. for CF cals .. then I watched an analysis that said more efficient for CF to use lower and pull fast to catch up with wheeel .. what do you think ? Have a throwdown this weekend
