the best guitarist in the world...what a great muscian

5:14 The legendary Rowland S. Howard's Fender Jaguar, he used that guitar exclusively since '78 (as he says in the vid), amazing. Most guitar players think they need a lot of pedals, racks, guitars and amps. Rowland just used (besides THE Jaguar) a couple of stompboxes (mxr distortion+ & mxr blue box) and a twin reverb, and he could blow your mind.

One of the great music documentaries. And Roland's penetrating comment sums it all up: "I don't understand how the dust gets all over everything." What more needs to be said?

+EigeDequei Z. It's interesting how many Aussie guitarists played the Fender jags, from Rowland to Go Betweens, to Triffids, to Midnight oil, the Church and my mate Charlie from Grong Grong who had a wicked sounding 1960s black Fender Jag. I think Rowland was a major influence on these fellas playing Jags,

Definitely it influenced me to get rid of all my guitars and buy a Jag.

Yuval Legendtofski Yeah, Charlie was definitely influenced by Rowland. I remember when we would go and see the Birthday Party when they first started coming to Adelaide and most of the crowd would be fixated on Cave and his antics, but Charlie be watching Rowland the entire gig

Cris Z. Mm Mmm...you're right. I love that he said he'd had it since 1978. Y'know, that line of yours sounds a bit like a Laurie Styvers lyric: "Heavenly Jag,/Let me play with you..." (if you don't know what I"m on about, click here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXKXhoJ3dt2pbtE). I've just been listening to Styvers's "Heavenly Band" and thinking about Rowland (although I know, of course, that Laurie Styvers and Rowland S. Howard never had anything whatsoever to do with each other), just because "Heavenly Band" is a love song to a musician, and Rowland was one of the most lovable and loved rock musicians who ever was. All his friends adored him. Some days I think that, right after Rowland's death, Jonnine Standish or Lydia Lunch or Genevieve McGuckin should have covered "Heavenly Band" as a memorial to Rowland.

the promoters weren't paying the acts. Simple explanation. Also Mt.Buller was a bit of a schlep AND expensive for ya typical indie/student consumer base.

@@saraivatoledo1842 I don't think RSH ever tried to go sober, even after the diagnosis of the liver disease which ultimately killed him. What I meant was that while Gen (his partner) was obviously under the influence of something here, I'm fairly sure that RSH was too, even if wasn't quite as high nor quite as obvious about it as she was. My guess is that this was how they chose to live their lives, both individually and as a couple.
