I believe that a big part of what makes your channel so great is that it's plain to anyone that you're excited about what you're sharing and care deeply about all things knitting. If it becomes more of a grind than a joy, please feel free to change it up. We will be happy with whatever you chose because we like everything you upload. The community stays healthy while you're passionate about it and we wouldn't want to be a burden to you.

Casual Friday is my weekly sit down with a cup of tea and, like meditation, rounds off my week and sets me up for the coming week. Your content is varied, interesting, and relevant to my life and interests. 30 to forty minutes is perfect. Technique Tuesday, however, is more like a part of my reference library-not tied to timing. I go search for what I need to help me through whatever I’m knitting so when it’s posted is not consequential. I’ll enjoy watching you whatever and whenever you post. Keep it happy and pleasurable for your life.

I could happily watch you for hours, every week. I’m in no doubt, however, about how much time and effort goes into making your videos. You are, without exception, my first go to practioner for every knitting technique and invariably there is something valuable to view. Any time and effort you put into this is hugely appreciated. But it’s important _you_ continue to get joy from it - so my view, for what it’s worth is I will welcome anything you upload, be it ever so small, or ever so large. Thank you for everything you do. You enrich my knitting life.

I belong to several Knitting groups. Each knitting group thinks that I am a better knitter than I really am because I can quote you. You have given me so much information, and confidence, and love of exploring. I just cannot thank you enough. You do whatever you want to do, whatever you’re comfortable doing. There is no way anyone who watches your Channel can complain about the amount of help and information you have given us. You’re doing this at no cost to us. Frankly I don’t think we should get a vote. ♥️♥️

Your technique videos have taken me to a different level of knitting and I appreciate all you do to teach us. Casual Friday is the highlight of my week. I know no other knitters. CF is the only knitting conversation I hear. I'd rather you reduce the time than lose Casual Fridays completely. BTW, your sweater is beautiful and the color looks fabulous on you. Thanks for all you do. Much respect!

Rather selfishly I want to keep Casual Friday as it is. It gets me through my ironing pile! Your Friday podcasts are so interesting and diverse. Following tidbits you have suggested, I have found some really interesting articles. What is most refreshing is you are informative and not constantly selling yarn, patterns or notions as other podcasters do. Thanks so much for your all you do for the fibre world.

I really enjoy both the technique videos and the Casual Friday rambles. I appreciate being able to search through your lessons to find specific answers, but often your technique videos answer questions I didn't even know I had! We don't want you to burn out though--please focus your time and attention where it suits *you* and we will follow your interests wherever they may lead. I'm really excited about your collaboration in the 40s sweater project and curious to see how that all plays out over the coming months. Thanks so much for all that you do--it has been especially important to me during lockdown to have little anchor points like this each week to keep me grounded and engaged.

I’m taking “Everyday Life in Ancient Rome” and the topic was women’s work. Wives were valued by their ability to spin and weave woolen goods. The professor asked what this might have involved. A young student answered that you take wool and put it on a weaving board. I blurted out “Well, it all starts with the sheep!” Then I briefly listed the steps to get from sheep to wool. I love your channel, and particularly the history-related material. Thank you.

Like some other subscribers, Casual Friday is one of my favorite experiences of my week. When I retired at the end of January, I started watching many KZbin channels that I had only been able to sample while I was still working. Yours was the first one that I watched every video from the oldest to the newest. When I got to 2017's Casual Friday videos, I felt like I had found a long lost friend, a drink of water in the desert, if you will. I search out a Technique Tuesday when I need technical help, but if they appear more irregularly I would be Ok with that. You have to do what's best for you and your circumstances, but know that our knitting world won't be quite so warm if the CF light dims. Best wishes for your continued success.

All your videos are a tremendous gift to the world of knitting. I find them to be of immense and lasting value, whether the techniques, the history and context, learnings or ideas and inspiration. I really love them and I am so grateful for your generosity in the time and effort you put into making them. Your attention to detail and inclusion of references and links throughout is amazing and an important part of the value, not just for the USA but worldwide, and regardless of how experienced we are as knitters. I think this is what makes your approach unique. As others have said please trust your gut and do what is best for you. For me the quality of your programmes matters more than the quantity. I also think you could mention more often how we can support your work through voluntary financial contributions, I would like to know more about this. Thank you so much

Hi Roxanne. I’m just catching up here. First I have to say how gorgeous your sweater is! ! It is not merely a sweater but I work of art! Then again, all of your knitting is! As far as your channel goes, I know I’m probably repeating what everyone else is saying. You need to do what works best for you. I quite enjoy both videos. I learn from both and they are both unique. 30 minutes for me for Casual Friday is perfectly fine. Sometimes I will watch longer videos in 2 parts. Your socks are wonderful. Thanks for taking us through your process. Fascinating!💞

You are SO LIMBER!!! I was thoroughly impressed by how effortlessly you lifted your foot to show us your sock, and just kept talking. Well done! As for the changes, I might be in the minority, but the Casual Friday episodes are my favorites. I generally look at the technique videos when I already have an interest in something, or need a reference. But the main thing is that I want you to enjoy this work so that you will keep doing it. So really, just do what you want. I will be here.

Hi Roxanne, I'm a bit late in answering, but if my 2 cents count as a years long viewer, I basically learned to knit with your Technique Tuesday videos. I continue to watch each new release and refer back to older episodes. As much as I love Casual Friday, in my opinion if your time needs to be cut, I would prefer it comes out of Friday. I don't consider my self a newish knitter as I picked up the needles about 4 1/2 years ago after a forced mental health retirement and not one day has passed that I have not knit at least several hours a day. A bit of crochet thrown in there too. (50 yr crocheter). As always, you are appreciated, and I respect any choice you make. After all, it is about your mental health, family and happiness. 👍😊

I have to join the comments already posted. You offer an invaluable contribution to the knitting community . It has depth, and thought, rather than simply a litany of purchases and WIPS etc, so casual Friday is something to look forward to .Technique Tuesday is now a fantastic reference resource which can be dipped into on an as required basis. As a relatively long term knitter Casual Friday is more important for me. Of course, other knitters will feel differently. Would you consider alternate weeks for both ? The one thing I am less interested in on KZbin is other people's questions, which I consider best placed in your Ravelry discussion pages. However, you are the boss!

As many others have said, I am grateful for whatever you decide to post. Casual Friday is part of my weekend routine of sitting with my KZbin knitting “friends” as I knit. Technique Tuesday, I tend to watch as needed, although I when I watch the TT for that week, I often find it’s something I needed to know that I didn’t know I needed! A few months ago I watched you and Suzanne Bryan’s video about how you each make your videos. It was that video that prompted me to think about the value of the advice you give…If I were to take this information as a class at a knitting shop, how much would I be paying? More than I can afford, honestly, but it prompted me to contribute via KoFi. I hope others follow suit!

I prefer the Casual Friday videos. Its the only video I have scheduled to watch every week. Other channels I might save a few videos and binge watch four or more all at once. I only watch the Technique Tuesday when its a technique related to a current or upcoming project. I usually watch old episodes and rarely watch it the week its come out. I like your Tidbits section and the sweater projects the most, though I usually enjoy the entire Friday episode.

I 'second' what most have said. We so appreciate all the time, experience, fiber news, history(human and genealogical) and 'random' tidbits you share. Like the others, I'd be glad for you to continue in whatever amounts you find fit into your life. On the qiviut fiber, I have half a memory of Wild Fibers Magazine doing an article (or an issue) on it many years ago. On their website, there's a musk ox on their tenth anniversary issue, but I couldn't see what's inside. I thought perhaps your guild library might have all the back copies. While I was doing all this qiviut poking around, I did see that carding should be done on cotton cards.

About 'ceramic textile': I once saw, years ago, an article about an artist who made very large ceramic sculptures looking like they were knitted. In this case they made tubes of clay, that were then bent into loops and put together so they formed the shapes of knitted stitches. Of course this is totally different from reproducing small knitted items in clay, but I think it's interesting for knitters too. It was clear that this ceramic artist knew very well how knitting stitches look and are composed!

Roxanne, I must say I find your flexibility quite admirable, it is great to present your socks. Hi Roxane, I recently discovered your casual friday videos and I am immensely enjoying them. I have to say that for me, technique videos are not that appealing, and you have such a huge selection of them already. Although I really consider myself an experienced knitter, I learn a lot on your casual fridays episodes. It is very exciting for me as I do not learn much on other knitting channels, I watch them more for inspiration. All the content you share about knitting history and vintage patterns and free archives or conferences is fabulous and I do not find this kind of information anywhere else. If there is a need for more technique videos, I absolutely understand you wanting to do more. Also if you enjoy it more. But I just wanted to let you know how much I love you casual fridays videos :)

I remember in one of your older videos you said ‘sometimes you just have to not worry about technique and just knit!’ It’s knitting season and you should enjoy it without pleasure to produce video after video. You don’t want to burn out! You could do a few technique Tuesday that are more on knitting theory, similar to you videos on measuring your foot to get a better fitting sock. Perhaps one on sweater fit, hat fit, and cowl/hood fit. You would not have the pressure of getting swatches done.

Casual Friday videos are my favorite and I would miss not hearing about everything you do. That said, I won't stop watching if they are shorter. I enjoy the TT videos if I need help on something specific but I do not watch every one you make like I do the CF videos. That said, I understand seasons and really appreciate your dedication to the TT videos and helping knitters improve their skills. Maybe this is will just be a season of change and not a permanent change and after you get some of the more in-depth T videos out, you can go back to the longer CF? just don't stop these CF videos!!! I would miss them terribly if you stopped them all together. Thank you for all the quality content and time you invest in us, your audience!

You are so right about the Downs being springy! They bounce back almost like a sponge. It IS very difficult to spin a consistent long draw. It takes soooo much practice. I am just finishing up carding of an 11-lb. raw Suffolk fleece I processed as a 50/50 spin for our local Sheep RescEwe. It's been a joy. Suffolk is very strong. (It's telling me it wants to be spun into fingering weight for socks.) My quandry oftentimes is, "What does this yarn want to become once it's been spun?!"

I was amazed at how specific the difference was in the Southdown, compared to the other wools I've spun so far. It's interesting to hear that other Down breeds will be similar!

I love your techniques videos, but if you don't cover a technique I can usually find other sources. Your tidbits are much more valuable to me. You're a human aggregator! 🤓 So I'd prefer full-length casual Fridays and less frequent technique Tuesdays.

I always put a link to my Ravelry project page for whatever knitted item I'm wearing down in the show notes. This sweater was my own design, and there's no pattern. It would be a nightmare to grade for multiple sizes, because of the way the stitch patterns interact with the body shaping, and would be frustrating to knitters who needed to make fit modifications. It's very specific to my body.

I think you should do what you enjoy with your channel and more technique Tuesday's with shorter casual fridays will be just great. When you're enjoying it, it really comes across in your vlogs. I really enjoy the longer projects you work on and the updates on the progress and what you learn, so maybe you could rotate updates on spinning / sock construction / sweaters through the decades, so you can still go into detail but feature one big project in a casual Friday - if that keeps it more simple for you, just a thought. I think shorter is better, I just don't watch vlogs that are over an hour long, they drag on.

For me, I enjoy the causal Friday content more because I am a beginner knitter and still focus on crochet. Technique Tuesday content is probably more valuable to the greater community though. In the end, I think you need to do whatever makes you feel most creative and motivated. If it's not fun and interesting, you won't enjoy it yourself! I'm happy with whatever you decide :)

I feel it's important to follow through with what interests you, and what feels right. That way you are more likely to keep your high interest level. Regarding toe up socks. I learnt to knit them that way and one reason was that I wanted to make a pair of short summer socks from only one 50g ball of wool. Toe up was the only way. I find the first few rows are tricky especially as I want to knit tightly - maybe I could do the toe with a smaller needle - can I get needles smaller than 2mm? I do Trudy's cast on so there is no joining at the toe. I am fairly new to your channel and have done a little binge watching. Thank you for sharing so much.

Have you ever tried a kfb increase by twisting the knit in the back (left leg) toward the just knit stitch still on the needle. To do this the left needle which enters the stitch from the front is removed and reinserted from the back. I find that this reduces the typical purl bump that this increase produces. Please shorten Casual Friday in order to keep doing it or less often if that’s what it takes. Love your podcast and the details of technique Tuesday.
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson 3 жыл бұрын
I hadn't tried that method of doing a kfb, so I tried your suggestion. I'm still getting a bump from the twist of the 2nd st. Typically, if I want to eliminate the bump, I will do a knit front, slip back (enter the st from the back, but don't knit it, just slip it). That produces a result like a lifted left increase.

I really appreciate your casual Friday videos as well and I understand the amount of time and energy it takes to produce them. I will miss them but I can always rewatch a previous episode. Are you saying that you’ll do one or the other in a week? So if you do a technique video there won’t be a casual Friday and visa versa? That’s reasonable.

I've been looking for so long for a sock pattern done toe up. I prefer a round heel and want a gusset and heel flap like you've done on your sock. Also the bind off has to be stretchy. I made a pair that wouldn't go over my heel. You hit everything I have searched for for years. Can you write a toe up vanilla sock pattern just like that? That would be perfect.

I love working toe up socks, but I can only wear the sl1, k heel because of my wide feet and thicker ankles. I can't find an instruction that tells me how to knit that heel so that it lays on the back of my ankle like a top down sock. When I knit a toe up sock using the same heel construction, the ankle piece is on the bottom of my foot. Does this make sense? Does one of your technique videos address this problem?
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson 3 жыл бұрын
Heel flap and gusset construction can be done toe up so that it looks like the cuff down version, but it's a completely different process than cuff down. (This is not uncommon when it comes to reversing shaping that includes incs/decs and short rows). I haven't done any videos on the process, yet, because I'm still in the analysis stage of toe up sock knitting. (I have 16 years of cuff down sock knitting experience, but this is the first year I've spent any real time analyzing toe up construction.)
