I posted my problem a couple of weeks ago, and you suggested I had bent my needle cutter. I had to find out, so I watched this video again and I do not know how, but the blade had fallen out, no where to be seen! I replaced it and it's working just fine! It was no easy task to do it alone from a wheel chair, but your step by step and clear instructions were just awesome. Thank you so much!

Wow! This is hands down, the BEST EVER video I've EVER watched (and obeyed), on youtub, and I've listened to, and followed hundreds of instructional videos. Roxanne, you have saved me time, frustration, the inconvenience of packing up my machine, driving 50 kms to town to take it to a repair shop, and, at minimum, $100. I encountered the exact problem as Beverly Booth (comment below) and thanks to your super clear, direct, and wonderfully explained, as well as filmed, instructions, I fixed my machine within half an hour, without getting frustrated or overwhelmed. AND I learned that I can easily get replacement blades for the cutter at my local Home Hardware instead of having to order specialty parts from Singer for an arm and a leg. You need to start making instructional videos on absolutely everything there is to learn! I swear, if you made a video on how to perform open heart surgery, I'd be so confident in your instructions, I'd try it! (though I suspect I'd be hard pressed to find a willing test patient). Please make more videos, Roxanne - you are a hero!

Thank you Roxanne for such clear instructions and demonstration, my 9960 is cutting like a dream with its new blade, but only after i did the work twice and noticed second time around the alignment of the sliders. I think they must have got bent when my machine had a big jam of material (stretch jersey). But watching your video carefully gave me the confidence to straighten them up and was thrilled when all back together, the cutting was perfect, and surprisingly too the running of the stitching is quieter. So a huge thank you, apparently a new cutting unit would have set me back £95, not to mention service charges.

@@RoxanneStitches Thanks Roxanne. With my situation, the blade came out of the holder and actually bent the auto-cutter thread hook ever so slightly such that the blade would jam in those pieces of metal every time it was used, making the feature unusable. I had to disable it to use the machine. It's all sorted now and working consistently well. But I would love to retrofit an older model's cutter into my machine.

Thanks for the instructions, our machine is several years old, and it's not been working the greatest! 😕 I did find some thread and a broken needle in the process! I tried to cut, and it didn't work...? OK, I had to disassemble twice, I found the small cover that holds the blade in, I wrapped it around both sliding arms, instead of just the one! 🤦♂️ Second time it worked like a champ! 😃😃 Attention To Detail! 🤯

I cannot tell you how excited I was to see the subject of your latest video. I purchased my Quantum 9960 2 years ago and immediately fell in love with it. The feature I was most looking forward to using was the auto thread cutter. After just using the auto thread cutter a few times it stopped working. I called Singer a few times and they could offer no help. The rep. said they had no manuals or training on how to troubleshoot the thread cutter because it was such a new feature. I did not want to send my new machine for Singer to repair under warranty because it could take up to 3 months before I would get it back. I was able to see that the blade had fallen out. I could reposition it, but as soon as I pushed the auto cutter button it would fall out into the machine. It irritated me that a new machine would need to be taken to a repair tech.. You have made my day! After watching your video I am confident that I can follow your step by step instructions and get my auto thread cutter to work as it should. The video was very clear and easy to follow. I want to thank you & your husband for being the first people online to make a video clearly showing how to fix a problem that even Singer was unable to provide guidance on.

Thank You Mrs. Roxanne! I had help doing this last night and I still think I did it wrong I think I had my friend put the cutter in backwards but we're going to give it another try. Now if ONLY I could find someone to show me what is going on with the dang feed dogs not wanting to stay all the way up. My friend said that it looked like the plastic part that supports the feed dogs on the back under the bobbin area and to the far back looked like something was going on with that. I have no clue if that's even fixable without taking it to someone. Anyway Thank You so much for all of your wonderful videos! They mean a lot to those of us that cannot really afford the $120 just to get someone to look at their machines.
@RoxanneStitches4 жыл бұрын
Hi. The feed dogs can be knocked off that plastic post in the back. A couple of other people have reported that. I tried to do a video on that, but since I have an early model 9960, my feed dogs don't come off that post. Hopefully you'll be able to get your machine in working order.
@gkarreq20074 жыл бұрын
@@RoxanneStitches Mine is the earlier machine like the one that you did the auto cutter on, the post is still attached its' just the plastic that it is supposed to stand on is worn down.

If yours is like the one in the video, it's a newer machine. I don't have that model. My post is fixed to the feed dog mechanism. You may need to take that in for repair.

i love this tutorial, it's so clear and easy to follow. I was able to replace my blade and reassemble (making sure to follow the 12 min mark instructions), but it's still not cutting. Actually, it cuts the top thread but not the bobbin thread, almost as if the bobbin is holding the thread too tightly because it continually gets stuck and the sound the machine makes when auto-cutting is a little off, like it can't get any slack from the bobbin. I just had an expensive service but they didn't replace the blade or fix this issue. so sad. :(
@RoxanneStitches3 жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa. I've heard of this happening after the repair. Since you were careful with the repair around mark 12:00 it's probably not that. Can you check to make sure the brush on the bobbin holder is in place? That little brush stages the bobbin thread for the auto cutter.

My gosh, thank you so much. My 5 months old 9960's blade just fell out after tangling the bottom thread and making squeaky sounds. I managed to get the blade out of the bobbin case, and I was surprised when I felt the blade---it's already nicked after sewing 120 masks. Apparently replacement blades aren't readily available, so I'll snap one off a box cutter that I got from a 99 cent store! I used Baby Lock for 30 years, but I figured I wouldn't sew much anymore. 9960 has many nice features, but small issues like this really bug me. It's a bummer that we need to open the machine just to replace the blade, but at least I don't have to take in this near-new machine to a repair shop. Many many thanks!!

This is awesome!!! I really need to give my machine a good cleaning and have been struggling to figure out just how to get into all the nooks and crannies where the lint builds up. Do you have a video detailing how you clean yours, I've only just found d your channel, if not it would be most helpful. Thanks so much

Thanks for the very detailed video for us 9960 users!! Please make more, maybe one on cleaning or maintenance oiling? Mine is only 6 months old but want to keep it running in tip top shape. I always clean under the throat plate but maybe there is more to do on a routine basis? Thanks again!

Dear Roxanne and Hubby: I have a 2012 9960. The feed dogs have slipped down, and I can't get them to stay up. They are moving in proper time, just not high enough. The up/down switch is not doing anything. Apparently, this is an easy fix on old machines where everything underneath is exposed. Thanks to your video (thanks!), I was able to get the cover off, but everything is still hidden! You wouldn't happen to know exactly where I would find the screw to adjust the feed dog height and how to reach it? Everything else is working fine, so I believe this machine is worth saving . . . Thanks again. Lisa

Press the lever to reengage the feed dogs. Turn the hand wheel one full turn towards you to raise them up.

@@RoxanneStitches Thank you so much for your response. What lever? The switch? I've actually already tried that. Numerous times! It's something inside. I can lift them up with my finger, but then they just drop down again. Anyway, I appreciate your time.

There's a post that the feed dogs rest on. Either they were knocked off that post or the post is broken. Probably best to bring it in for service.

Amazing tutorial! You even showed us how to properly disassemble the case! I have an old japanese Brother Embroidery/Sewing machine but the cutting mechanism is very annoying, it keeps on jamming the bobbincase and automatically cut unprompted as I sew and embroider, ruining my projects. I just want to remove the mechanism totally.

Hi Joshua. Thanks. Sorry you're having issues with your cutting mechanism. Hopefully there's a tutorial to help you too.

Very helpful, I might try to my Juki DX7 which has a very delicate bobbin case that easily breaks and a cutting thread as well. ❤❤

Hi Linda. It's so worth it! One lady in our FB group owns 3 9960's and she's fixed all of them. She also helps others in our FB group if they need help. It's such a great feature that we get spoiled.

Very well made video, describing each action taken. Wish you could do it for a Brother Quattro 2 embroidery machine, as the auto cutter is somehow out of alignment and grinds when I use it. I'm hoping this helps though. Thank you :-)
@RoxanneStitches4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bessie. The cutter can become bent if the button is pressed more than once without cutting. The cutter can get stuck in it's path and be unable to retract back into the mechanisms housing. This may be your issue. If so, when it's stuck, gently bend it back into position and give it a good cleaning out. Hope this helps.
