God, the music syncing up with the gameplay at 0:57 gives me absolute goosebumps. Fun fact: this was probably a happy coincidence in this video; but in the KH2FM fight, at the very same time the music intensifies (like at 0:57), Roxas' AI gets triggered to use his ultimate/desperation move (the one where he summons pillars of light and shoots homing balls of light at you). At least, it's what I noticed whilst rewatching several people playing the Roxas fight.

We already got 2 square characters (Cloud and Sephiroth) I think they'd be more than happy to add another character, but Disney sucks as a cooperative company and just wants to own everything

@@teredtiger that’s how I viewed it as well before Tetsuya Nomura had an interview about it and literally stated that “Disney was the one that was like, ‘Go ahead! This is a great opportunity.’ I thought it would be tough to pull off because it might clash with the established lore in Kingdom Hearts and the Disney worlds, so it was an opportunity I had to consider very carefully.” This is why I said what I did. Music licenses can be a whole different beast though. They would probably need approval from more people than just Disney and Square Enix. Just like how they needed the original composers approval for Dragon Quests music on top of needing approval from Square Enix and the recording studio which is why we got shitty versions of all of their songs in the game and not live orchestral arrangements.

@@The_Vible it was all themed to the original game , I’m honestly not made about that either. The first game gets criminally overshadowed by the second. I just replayed the second one recently (on critical) and yes the combat is fantastic but the level design and exploration is atrocious compared to the first game and the story is held back by hours of filler in between the beginning middle and end.

I wish. I feel like they missed the mark with picking most of the songs. They claimed they picked the ones that "represented the series" but what they really meant was they represented the first game. Plus there's just some missed opportunities. Fragments of Sorrow and Destati are too similar. I would have picked Guardando nel Buio instead of Destati. Even more so I would have picked Dismiss over them all. I would have also put A Fight to the Death or Darkness of the Unknown, Rage Awakened, Forza Finale or Scala Ad Caelum, Tension Rising, and 13th Struggle. Plus, if they were really trying to represent the franchise, they would have had one of Hikaru Utada's songs, even if it was an instrumental version.

I'm very sure that there were limitations put in place regarding what tracks could be used, most likely only allowing for songs that existed in the first Kingdom Hearts game, with Fragments of Sorrow using the 2.5 version due to it just being a very slightly different version of the original.

Most of the OST in Smash is from the original Kingdom Hearts. Which sucks because it would been awesome to hear this against the Roxas spirit and Rage Awaken against the Terra spirit battles! (Along with Victor to Heaven for Xion too) Missed opportunity but at least Sora is the final, and most requested, character until the next Smash game comes.

honestly, i was pretty disappointed with the music selection they chose for sora. so many fantastic songs that could've been chosen from throughout the series, but instead we only get songs from the first game. "the other promise" and "vector to the heavens" would've been easy picks. oh well, here's hoping for more to come in the sequel... that is, if sora gets to stay.
