Besides the difficulty to attain, I spent every day checking from june to september, AND being limited to 4 (not able to buy as gifts for others). I have no issues with the controllers. And it's pretty much needed to play the NSO N64 games correctly. I bought 4 and I don't regret it a single moment. Games like Star Fox and Golden eye it's pretty much required. Plus the Mario Party games. Not only that but if you have muscle memory it allows you to play like normal. But to each their own. But as somebody who bought all 4 controllers in 2023, being 2024 now. I have one, and I love it.. there's no substitute for the identical dimensions and layout, yes the control stick is tight, but it makes me feel like it's a brand new controller from 1996 whether that's how they were out of the box back then or not. Who knows, maybe it'll loosen up over time? It sounded like the vast majority of your review was positive. Usb-c is great, rumble is great, no button mapping required or extra bells and whistles.. just pure authentic nostalgia with wireless capability. I'll deal with the touchy control stick in exchange for that funky N64 controler style grip and button layout.

The tribute 64 or Brawler 64 and other N64 controller alternatives do not allow you to play some games in the specific way that you may require. I cannot do that with those other alternative controllers. I must use the original style controller for certain games to be playable.

I bought 2 when they released awhile ago. Kept one in box (always able to sell it to pay for both) and have the other one out of box. I want to use it for PC but haven’t tried it yet. I have 0 intention on playing Switch N64 games as I have a great computer that can emulate way better, don’t need to subscribe for something that should be free and also have the OG N64 console with an everdrive. The tribute64 and brawler64 are great options as well but nothing beats that original controller feel. Wish it could work on the OG console!

Well we are in the Bluetooth era, third party n64 controllers were if not worse then mediocre back in the day. If we wanna play some leisure nice portable n64 in handheld mode we already use joycons plus there’s a lot of other options. I don’t think you need it really for anything too technical except perhaps maybe real specific scenarios like Zelda Oot glitches such as dot skip but nothing is impossible without that remote. I have 5, one still boxed, it does make it convenient for get togethers when a group is gonna play n64 and I need controllers. The stick of the Switch N64 Online controller is really bad. As you've experienced yourself, it's too sensitive but that's not all that is bad about it. Internally it's the worst of both new sticks and the original N64 stick. It has the same parts that wore down really fast on the original but also uses the same electrical resistance based hardware that tends to develop stick drift over time on newer style sticks. The original N64 controller had optical encoder wheels instead that don't develop any drift over time and can have an even smaller (nearly zero) dead zone than modern sticks. While I'm not 100% sure, sensitivity is something that could've been addressed with proper manufacturer calibration and adjustments. Either way, it's a pretty sloppy product Nintendo brought to market.

Did GameCube have this issue at all? Is Sony and Microsoft much better in the hardware business than Nintendo?
@RoXolid2 жыл бұрын
No, the GameCube controllers still hold up amazingly well even today. A popular mod is to put a GC stick in an N64 controller
@VaiCloud2 жыл бұрын
@@mariokart8715 From my experience it not something that's common with GC, PS2 and PS3 controllers. However, those old controllers used to have larger dead zones than current ones, meaning there is more room for error before a stick would start drifting but that also means older sticks are less ideal for finer movements. Stick drift is a problem with Nintendo's (Pro-Controllers), Sony's and Microsoft's current controllers as they use largely the same parts and similarly small dead zones. Oddly enough, my launch model joycons are still fine, but I had several PS4 controllers drift on me. I wish we'd to back to optical sensors or maybe try hall effect sensors on analog sticks but I guess reliability is not a desirable trait for current day manufacturers.

@@TheInfiniteNine So, what are they supposed to do, just not get to have the controller at all or wait months or years just because you don’t approve of their purchase decisions? We don’t live in a fantasy world where we can always make every decision based on some 100% ethical standard that’s universally great for all of humanity. We live in the real world which has complicated situations and complex scenarios with tough choices, and sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do to get what you want or need. And the controller isn’t a need, but it doesn’t matter. This person has no obligation to you or anyone else to not buy the controller from a scalper and lose out on a cool retro item he wants just because it’s not available in their country or is always out of stock. They simply decided they wanted the controller, found it was out of stock/not available in their country, decided to look elsewhere for it, found it from a third party seller for 150 dollars, weighed the pros and cons, and ultimately decided it was worth it and purchased it and guess what? They are HAPPY with it. That is all that matters. No other consideration is even important in the slightest. TLDR: Nobody likes a judgmental moral preacher, get off your high horse!
