Hi Taria. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist - wildlife - and a New Yorker expat living abroad). I didn't know you will be coming to Spain (I am a subscriber to your channel because I am interested in practicing urban sketching to get out of my comfort zone (wildlife). I will check your itinerary to see if I can attend (I have limited mobility due to surgeries and it is not always easy for me). Sketchbooking (now called this way) is a MUST in Art (not only in urban sketching) as you know... why? It's your happy place to practice and learn!!!! There are 2 ways of sketchbooking (as per today's standards there are 3)... 1) your everyday practice drawings and paintings... (Picasso finished over 50K pieces... how many did he practice on and were discarded while he was learning and also as an artist as he was practicing and creating?). 2. For more finished ideas, that will also help you get it was for other more refined and finished art pieces. 3. There is a third one today... where the sketchbook is in itself your own artistical work. Which is great, for real! I do it myself too. And the reason why I want to get better at urban sketching, because the to my mobility issues lately (the past 2 years of surgeries) it is an area that will help me to go outside more (not just living in my studio) and recover mentally better (I was always out in nature before my health issues), but I'm not used to painting in an urban setting. I found that the multi-colored paper pages, where you sketched one room across two different colors, allowed me to experience two different moods or Feelings from each color. Green vs Eggshell I am calmer with the eggshell. Purple vs yellow, the purple makes me feel more quiet and peaceful like lavender, while the yellow paper wakes me up like a sunny day. It's amazing how we can be affected by color that way. Or am I just being "sketchy"? 😊
