Great tips Toria! I have dabbled with drawing and painting in my 30s 40s 50s 60s. I’m now 71 and I want to draw more and learn more than I ever have. Love following you!

I love the advice to just label them as "experiments." I find that I have so much anxiety over my perfectionism that it takes me a lot to even start on a sketch or watercolor painting. Sometimes I have to just do little steps. I will just tape the paper down. Then I have to walk away for awhile. Then the next step, walk away. It's frustrating. So I am going to just label them as experiments now and maybe that will help. :)

We learned to draw at the same age! I decided this past summer I was gonna start drawing…I have no idea what exactly got me interested but the next thing I knew I was drawing constantly. I’ve been really busy with other things lately and the longer I’ve gone without drawing, the more I’ve put it off because I’m afraid it’ll be hard after not doing it for a few weeks. I want to just draw something and break that mental block.

Great, practical tips. I struggle most with #2…..sketching around other people ! I guess I am a bit self conscious and need to get over that.

Agree. My strategy to sketching regularly is to also go smaller for the default kit. I went down from A5 to A6 (WC) or 5*5 (dry media super cheap Royal Talens) sketchbooks with water-soluble pen and pocket brush pen with me all the time. I also have a micro WC pallet in a pocket sized wallet ( well cargo pants sized pocket). In two cargo pockets I can do any kind of WC urban sketch I know how to do. The smaller format in the book is the key. Much less time to complete A6 size. If I want to do more I carry a B5 Etchr in my pack but it takes up to an hour to fill a B5.

Thank you for your videos and advice. I kind of shotgun these videos, all over the place. Some times I get a little turned off, then I go looking for one of your drawings. Subscribed

Such helpful tips! I started carrying a sketchbook in my purse this summer. And started sketching while walking the neighborhood, on planes and in waiting rooms. This has really helped me improve my skills!

Problem I have is finding time to do something else. I'm retired now and waited all my life for more time, now that I have it I find I am addicted! NO time for anything else... is there an artist's anonymous? 😨

I have used fountain pens in school so it was no mystery for me to fill them. However thanks for confirming the extra fine nibs work with the lamys. I generally prrfer them too. I'll have to get myself a replacement nib. I currently have a fine one, but I find it too thick.

Thank you… I so needed this reminder after failing to do a modified inktober… I will keep plugging away but was hoping to have several drawings of each of the weekly prompts… I need to remember that masterpieces are not to be the end results…

Hi , You may have reviewed a good bag to carry your stuff in while on location. I would love to hear yours as well as any recommendations . Also I carry tombows would anyone know if they would fit in a pencil roll type carry case? I’m searching all over and I’m not sure what to use to throw it all in my bag. Help. Tia. 🥰

I'm still on the hunt for a good bag...I like a shoulder bag for access but it hurts my shoulder after a while. a Backpack is more comfortable to carry but less accessible. So still hunting for a perfect bag....not sure on the Tombow/pencil wrap question - I would be fairly certain they would fit nicely BUT I haven't actually tried I'm afraid....

When I was trying to learn to cook I had a lot of Experiments. What's for dinner? The answer I gave "An experiment!". Who has time to come up with fancy names for every meal?

feel very uncomfortable drawing around people even in my house I Need to be alone, and in my country you never see anyone drawing outside ( it add to the pressure lol) for now I just take photos around my city and draw them at home .
