Whether fronting Roxy Music or doing his solo stuff, Bryan Ferry was pure class. As for Yannick she had the voice of an angel. RIP Yanick Etienne.

A friend had turned me on to Roxy Music, I remember being on a MBTA bus. Not sure if it was on our way home from school in the late 70's or my maybe work in the 80's. Avalon will always remain one of my favorites. In 1995 I had this played as the last song at my wedding. It's as times as Avalon itself. )0(

This live performance of Avalon is the best of all that are out there. Yannick makes it; but also the pace, the professionalism of the line-up and how they pull the song together, and quite clearly the bonding between them, creates a relaxed and fabulous performance. Visually amazing too - no funky light show required. Even Ferry’s glittery jacket seems a perfect ingredient in a such sophisticated, slick, and seemingly effortless rendition. If my husband put a jacket like that on I’d ROFL, but Ferry simply looks cool. If I’d put a necklace on like the one the backing lady is wearing, I’d look totally ridiculous - but she looks cool. Sure, they’re on stage, but they work their collective appearance so well. They all look cool and sound wonderful. Great song!

In 1986 I was a metalhead. Boughtthe best of Roxy Music on a whim, and fell in love with this song. But especially for the backing singer extraordinary voice in the outro. For nearly 40 years I kept telling anyone who would listen this was the most angelic vocal performance I have ever heard. And I find this video in 2024. And from the comments I realise I am not the only one who feels the same way about THAT VOICE !! THAT VOICE. THIS SONG. NEVER BETTERED IN POP HISTORY.

I came here in honour of Yanick Etienne’s passing,to see what she looked like, because I have always loved this song. Glad I did, because it’s wonderful to see how every band member respects each other. Bryan Ferry’s smile when she hits that high note says it all: priceless! I love how the voices and the various instruments complement each other and create such a dreamy atmosphere. For me personally, very special memories pop up every time I hear this song. I played it when my son was still a baby - he is now thirteen - I held him in my arms and we danced and danced… that look on his face, his smile, us looking into each other’s eyes… I guess every parent knows this feeling: unforgettable, magic! Thank you Roxy Music and Yanick Etienne, for giving me these moments I will forever cherish!
