This video had me confused. It is from the Ed Sullivan Show on August 8, 1954. I thought it was one of the shows that guest hosts stood in for Sullivan after his serious car accident, but that was two years later in August 1956. That is why you see Charles Laughton introduce Elvis on his first Sullivan appearance. Also timecode recording and videotape had not been invented yet. This is a later videotape recording of the original kinescope. Victor Borge must have been one of Sullivan's summer replacement hosts while Ed was on vacation

Ray is the band leader, he is signaling to him to play music that signifies the end of the trick.

Ray Bloch was the arranger and orchestra conductor for The Ed Sullivan Show during its entire run from 1948 to 1971.

He was born in January 1914, so this appearance was probably in the 50s, maybe late 50s.
