It's long been a staple of Spanish Guitar and Mariachi (which descends from it). Roy Clark was very much a student of the world. I have no doubt that had he wanted to, he could have performed Bach's harpsichord compositions on the banjo.

Back in the late 70's and 80's, all the high end hi-fi dealers would use recordings by Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucía, Roy Clark, John McLaughlin and others to demo the systems. Because their tones were so pure it made the amps/speakers etc sound even better than they may have been :) You can hear the perfect tones even in this TV clip. This made me emotional, to think how underrated he was. I always remember my mother loved him on the show “HeeHaw” in the 60’s I believe. He was portrayed as a “hillbilly” country man who only played mediocre country tunes. Bravo good sir, Bravo!!❤❤. A real talent.

With a flatpick! RIP Roy Clark. One of the all-time greats.

Clean picking. Roy is one of the greatest to ever play the guitar. Shredders hide behind distortion and effects. This is pure amazing acoustic guitar on its own.

Unbelievable! His right hand picking is so fast it looks like the kind of CGI effect you might see on CW's 'The Flash'. Amazing!

I saw this when it aired. Watched again when he passed. Just watched again. Not a dry eye in the house. And I'm the only one home.

I remember Roy Clark from Hee Haw and his performances with Buck Owens. Until I saw this, I never knew how talented he really was. This performance is truly amazing. Stan Kenton also does an amazing version, which is completely different.

I loved this show, was about 15 & trying to learn the guitar when this episode aired. I was absolutely stunned. And switched to the flute. 😉
