Many musicians over the years take their fans for granted. Roy never did. He was asked once why he gives his all in every performance. His answer was simple; this may be the only show some of them ever pay to see so they deserve to see the best I have. Pity there aren't more like him. May he rest in peace.

"I do this with mixed emotions. Because I am gonna show off". Then proceeds to let every player have as much time as he takes. What a great player and, even more importantly, a great guy. You can always tell the guys that are fun to play with. Look at the guys in the band. They are having a blast. What a great gig. Not a guy on that stage ever forgot playing with the master, Roy Clark.
@trainguy1017Ай бұрын
He worked with his bandmates in much the same way that Charlie Daniels did. He understood that it wasn't just him on stage, that without them the music wasn't complete. Doin' what they love and lovin' what they do. One of the signs of a great musician is knowing you're great but also knowing there are others that are equally talented and letting them shine too!

what makes Roy's talent so fantastic is his ability to make his playing look so ridiculously easy when in fact it's very hard to do that well. RIP and belated thanks for giving us such a great time when you performed.
@njcurmudgeon3 жыл бұрын
Never been much of a country music fan. Nothing personal against anyone - we all have our personal tastes one way or another and I hope "your music" does for you what "my music" does for me. But every so often we get someone like Roy here...someone who is a true *musician* who transcends genre and even personal taste - someone whose dedication to his art and craft is so total and complete that it must be respected full stop. I don't care what your personal preferences are - you're as entitled to them as I am and the next person - but mad props where they are due. Roy Clark is a master of any stringed instrument, across multiple genres. I heard an interview with him not long before his passing. At that age, one might be forgiven for being dismissive of the style of the moment. Yet there he was, still wondering if there wasn't something he could learn from the music of the moment. Always learning; always open to new thing - a *true* musician. And, in my opinion, for what it's worth, an underappreciated one.

Roy was such a professional, he just put his whole heart and soul into it and left the rest to the audience. I was fortunate enough to have met Mr. Clark at The Crosby celebrity golf tournament back in the 90s. He was as down to earth as he seemed on stage. He took time to stop and share a laugh with me and my family before teeing off. I’ve always had respect for him but that few moments he spent with us really showed that he didn’t put himself above everyone else and that just added even more respect for him. Rest In Peace Roy. YES I HAVE THE MAN WHO WROTE PLAYED IT MANY TIMES At OUR FAMILY, REUNIONS, AT OUR HOUSE, IN COVE CITY NC. Ervin t Rouse was born in Craven County NC. ROY did an awesome job. ERVIN, would play it behind his head, down behind his back, stop and talk in the middle of it and tell a story. Start back playing where he left off. Ervin was a SHOWMAN ALSO. My dad and Ervin 's cousin, Haywood Rouse and Ervin tripled played the Orange Blossum, It was a work of Magic. Then Ervin would play Sweeter than the Flowers and he have tears in his eyes.

I remember watching Roy on TV back in the 60s, most memorably on Hee Haw. He was certainly a virtuoso on many instruments, and also crossing many genres of music. But I think the thing that stands out most memorably to me is how he really enjoyed playing music and sharing with his audience. It's a rare individual who has that much talent and be humble at the same time, but yet can impart his happiness through his abilities to his audience. RIP Roy … still have many of your albums in my meager collection and will continue to enjoy them until they lay me in the ground.

People say that, but I personally don’t see it that way. He did it all and was so multi-talented and modest that he didn’t seek the fanfare and kudos, he truly loved what he did and loved to entertain. He did guest spots on all major television shows, played concerts and toured with his group, even guest hosted for Johnny Carson. His recording of “Yesterday when I was Young”, reached #1 in Canada and peaked in the top 10 in the USA, in the ‘easy listening’ category. He took on acting gigs and undoubtedly had comedic chops. He was so exceptionally well rounded in his talents that I think he of him as true genius. Just imagine if his only focus had been that of the acoustic guitar, he would have played Carnegie Hall and been packing concert halls everywhere.
