Yep. Same here. I remember being a young kid getting in a debate with my teenage neighbor about who the best guitar player in world was. TO me it was Roy Clark. She kept talking about some guy I'd never heard of named Van Halen... ha ha. I had no idea at the time. Truth be told, if you gave Roy a superstrat and amps with tons of gain and effects, he could melt your brain with some of his playing technique. Dude can just flat out play.

perhaps the greatest string instrument player ever....Roy was well rounded...he could play most all string instruments and play them very well...in most cases, of those he attempted ....he mastered. Roy Clark was a great guitar player. He mastered the guitar,banjo,violin and countless other stringed instruments...but it did not stop there... Roy could play piano, organ and percusion as well. His ability to keep time is legendary and so is most of his music. Thanks so much for loading this!!!!

"Hee Haw" was where I had my first exposure to Roy Clark. That program may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but there is one undeniable fact: Clark was one talented mofo, and he played like a boss. Period. In an age where popular music trends place an unfathomable degree of importance on voice modulation and sampling, sometimes you have to be reminded that six strings are still a great place to start. And Roy Clark could roll with the best of them.
@richarddavis116310 жыл бұрын
I liked Hee Haw, people need to lighten up, don't you think? There was a hell of a lot of very talented people guesting on that show. The first time that I saw Chet Atkins was on that show and I was just amazed. I was no stranger to beautiful guitar playing either, I had just come from Madrid, Spain where there were classical and flamenco players playing outside our apartment every day and even acrobats, for goodness sake. Pure magic for a young boy.
@rosewoodfretboard10 жыл бұрын
"Hee Haw" was Saturday afternoon viewing at my grandparents' in the 1970s when I was growing up, so it does hold a warm place in the ol' ticker. It was one of the first opportunities to put faces to the voices I heard on AM radio (Hank Williams Jr. in his pre-Bocephus days, Waylon Jennings before The Outlaws, among other notables). Plus, there was comedy gold to be mined on that show; all you had to do was watch. Good times and some nice memories of bygone days.

Back in around 1970 my buddy and I went to the Canadian Exhibition in Toronto. His parents had tickets for the Roy Clark show. Of course being 15 years old we wanted to see the Guess Who that were performing on a different stage, but free tickets are free tickets. It didn't long for us to realize this show was special. Roy Clark,Boots Randolph,Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer all in the same show and on stage at the same time. I will never forget it.

Mark Kelly Considering that the Arabs ruled Spain for 2 centuries and that they introduced the Uhd to the Europeans musicians, which is better known as the Lute. The guitar being most probably a variant of the Uhd, simpler in manufacture and construction. The Arab influence is tremendous in the Spanish culture and brought Europe out of the dark ages, but as all good bigoted people would say "What influence?!"

Arabs spent almost 8 centuries in Iberia but American school-textbooks refer to them as Moors .....well, Moors my tuchas
@kanakaken10 жыл бұрын
SAA Colt The Moors invaded the Iberian peninsular in 711 naming it Al Andalus, today known as Andalusia. The Fall of Granada in 1492 saw the end of the Muslim rule in Iberia. So they were in charge of the place for over 7 centuries. A guitar was defined as being an instrument having "a long, fretted neck, flat wooden soundboard, ribs, and a flat back, most often with incurved sides". The term is used to refer to a number of chordophones that were developed and used across Europe, beginning in the 12th century and, later, in the Americas. A 3,300-year-old stone carving of a Hittite bard playing a stringed instrument is the oldest iconographic representation of a chordophone. The description of the Hitite instument is much closer to the Guitar than is an Oud, the Moorish instrument. The Europeans added frets to the Oud and called it a 'Lute' from the Arabis Al'ud, meaning 'the wood'. The oud is defined as a "short-necked instrument with many strings, a large pear-shaped body with highly vaulted back, and an elaborate, sharply angled peghead". Not much like a guitar. The word Guitar is descended from the Sanskrit word 'tar', meaning string. The Indian Sitar was developed from the Setar, a persian 3 stringed instrument, with more strings added over time. The first 'guitarras' were 4 stringed instruments. developed in Spain. It is more likely that the four-stringed Persian chartar (with a narrow waist in it's body) arrived in Spain, where it changed somewhat in form and construction, acquiring pairs of unison-tuned strings instead of single strings and became known as the quitarra or chitarra.
