Mike did more damage for sure but Roy dictated the tempo of the fight. If you’d asked him before the fight what he needed to do to win, he would have said avoid big shots, land from the outside, and tie Mike up when he gets in close - that’s what he accomplished
@NigelOdinson4 жыл бұрын
@@Saul.2910 I disagree, the only way he dictated the fight was by holding for 30-40 seconds at a time over and over again. He was blowing out of his arse to be honest, which I didn't expect. Tyson walked him down the whole fight and there was only one round where Roy sort of landed from the outside properly. Mike slipped most the shots and I think most people seem to be saying the opposite to what you said. Mike dicrsted the fight WHEN they were actually fighting. Roy dictated when they WERE NOT fighting, i.e holding on for as long as physically possible. He only broke from the clinch like twice to keep fighting. The ref suckled ass too by letting him hold for more of the fight than they fought, 2 minute rounds and over half the round was roy holding Tyson so he couldn't uppercut, Tyson was the only one punching and working from/out of the 'clinch' - I use quotation marks because it was more like he was grappling or wrestling than your typical boxing clinch, maybe out of tiredness but also to nullify Tyson, but the ref let it go for far too long with nothing happening it was just to try stay as close as possible, he wasn't looking to fight, and instead of nullifying Tyson he nullified the majority of the fight. He didn't do this by bocing, he did it by holding Tysons arms so neither of them could use the tools necessary to call it boxing. Was a shame because Tyson clearly had amazing stamina, far better than Roy did surprisingly and he gave glimpses of his old self, all be it with age attached but he obviously wanted to keep boxing to give a show and a good account of himself. And he clearly was still in a position to and still able to compete as he has retained an amazing portion of his skill base, especially considering he was the one with the 15 year lay off and abuse of his body through coke/alcohol and whatever else. Just no way that I can find an angle to justify the statement that Roy dictated the fight, he really didn't. Yes im aware this is an extremely long reply haha 😂😂

@@DISCOMBOBULATED_BEANER He's not out of shape, at least not in the context you're speaking of.... You realize he had to put 40 or so lb's on just to get within range of mikes weight while Mike weighed the lightest he has in 23 years, and he was still undersized by 10 lb's. The problem is to make the weight he had to put the weight on quick to make the fight, otherwise he would just get murdered by the first punch from Tyson. Even if he trained since his last fight in 2018, there is no way he can put that much muscle on to make it worth while. @@Tikipunch9 Nothing to do with money. It's because RJJ and Tyson couldn't get boxing licenses. That's why their rules were different compared to the previous fighters. Because it wasn't considered a professional fight. If you look at the Wiki page of RJ and MT their fight is not listed on their professional boxing record. But Badou Jacks, Nate, and Jake Paul's fight are all on their boxing record on Wiki because they were all able to attain licenses. Even in the post-fight interview, Gray asked if Mike Tyson wanted to get a boxing license and do it again. Nothing but respect for these two gentlemen! They are my age, I am from Roy's home town, Pensacola, FL. Roy has always been my hero, Mike Tyson has always been my favorite boxer. The humility that these two legends have shown will never be surpassed. Great fight!

Roy is a simply prolific and great. I would never take away from anything that he did and accomplish because even at 51..he still moved great and did something that not many could do. I am a Tyson fan but also a Roy Jones Jr. fan...I hope that they both get high honors going into the Hall of Fame. Two of the greatest gladiators the world has ever had the privilege to witness.......
