United needs some like him tight NOW. Look how he positions himself in support, never too eager to get forward but always watching and marking the opposition's most forward 2 so once the transition/counter begins, he's right there.

He does Fred and McTominays job by himself

Brilliant point read the game like Herrera/Blind but both of those left space to intercept passes so you couldnt trust them to truly hold. Keane managed to do both jobs. Its interesting with James Garner coz he is more of the Herrera mold but he had two seasons as a CDM can he fill space stay disciplined whilst still using his intercepting ability?

Occasionally Fergie would play him CB out of necessity and I remember him looking instantly world class there. Dominating in the air. The best decision maker the game has seen whether what pass to choose or when to jump for a header. Or where to be to play a quick pass to forwards thus where to be to receive ball. If he had a weakness it was dribbling so he avoided it so as not to explose that. Knew his own game and THE game inside out. If you are picking an all time 11 you'd have many attackers to choose from but who else had all these game control and defensive traits maximised AND a unparalleled consistency.

I remember a match against Newcastle when he was moved to centre back early on. He produced a consummate display and had Les Ferdinand, a top-notch striker, in his pocket for the rest of the game.

Playing him CB was the biggest mistake which costed us the title in 2001/2002. What the hell were you even thinking lol.

Altough he seldom give away possesion , he had a tendency from time to time to play his own teammates into trouble
