Did you forward this to Roy's son? Roy had an unusual, in some ways unique voice, but Glen Campbell used to love to sing his songs. He did Dream Baby on Shindig (it's on youtube) and Cryin' was on his Gentle on my Mind album and as an old man, when his voice was quite different, he put it on his PBS special; both are on KZbin. I only mention this because if you go to Nashville I personally think it would be great if you could connect w Glen's old bandmate, the great musician & producer Carl Jackson, who plays at the Station Inn on Monday nights; I don't know him personally, just through Twitter, but to me it would be awesome if he could work with you in any way. Connections w so much history are nice. There are so many people in Nashville who value live music and are connected in some way to so much of the music that you like--I guess they can be said to be all sort of like the heirs to the Chet Atkins magic. (Chet was an exec & producer at RCA when they acquired Elvis's contract and one of the great guitarists in pop music history.) Do you know who Roger Miller was? Roger was a contemporary of Glen and Willie Nelson and Roy etc, a singer-songwriter who had some smashes of his own and a lot of songs that others made famous--like "I Catch Myself Cryin'" I think that is a great song for you. Songs that are plainly emotional--up or down--seem to me like good ones for you. I LIKED what you did with Back to Black because you didn't try to sound like Amy, who has that punch-in-the-face belting voice--no one could out-Amy Amy. Your version was more plaintive and so it became your own song--in fact I had to look it up to remember whose song it was, which is crazy because I love Amy! Speaking of heartbreak songs, Lonnie Johnson's "Another Night to Cry" would be a perfect song to do with a master guitarist like Carl Jackson because the guitar part is hard and your voice would make the song into something else. I wonder how many more cryin' songs I can think of. Here is a video of Willie, Glen and Roger Miller, with the songs "Uncloudy Day" and "Old Friends," both very beautiful. As a teenager and in my early 20s,I worked with and for Roy, both in and out of the recording industry. A kind, shy, unassuming man and in the many times I was with him on tour I was amazed by the sound that came out of a mouth that barely seemed ever to open much more than a slit!! Ha! Ha!

So blessed to have seen Roy at two concerts back in the day. I'm 74. My husband passed away last month and hope someday, I get to have him again, In Dreams. It's tough being the one to carry on alone. You are just wonderful, Elliott. I watch all your videos, transported to when I was young and beautiful, when my husband and I first met. I miss him so. Because, In Dreams, I walk with him again...hopefully, some day it will happen. Aside from your voice, to look at your youth on this video, is something we want to recapture so badly. My step father was a huge fan of Roy Orbison. I live in Vancouver Canada and in 1980 Orbison performed there in a small venue of about 250 people. The tickets were 13 dollars each... and I thought ... Wow what a great gift for my mother and stepfather. Their anniversary was coming up. I bought them the tickets for their anniversary ... two days later they went to see Roy Obison perform and were blown away... they couldn't stop talking about him and his performance. I only wish I could have gone too! And only $13 dollars a ticket ... I would pay $1300 now. Thank you Elliot for such a great cover, you did Roy proud! I saw Roy the Big "O" Orbison live at St. George Leagues club in Sydney Australia in 1983, just 3 years before he left the building. He was F@#&ing MAGNIFICENT!!! The most charismatic performer I have ever seen. He was getting double standing ovations before he even finished the songs. You, young guy, have just drilled it. I saw him live once in my life at a local pub type bar at my local beach .. I have loved Roy Orbison for over 60 yrs and could not imagine anyone being able to sing this song as he did. You have surpassed my expectations completely. I have goose bumps, this is so beautiful! You might do some more Roy Orbison since you have nailed this one completely. Only the Lonely or Crying are great songs.

Hi Elliot. Roy Orbison was one of my idols along with Elvis, Buddy Holly, the Platters and others, when I was in my teens and early twenties. How I remember those days. I have just listened to your rendition of Roy's In Dreams [ 4 times in a row now ] and for me, it was Roy Orbison singing. You have brought back long forgotten memories, of years gone by, of freinds and family passed on, and I thank you from my heart for making an old man very happy again. . . . congratulations! That was very good! I´m 82 and from Germany and I grew up with the songs of Roy Orbison, The Platters and their Only You, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, Conway Twitty and so on. In that years these songs from America where not played in German radio. So I was listening every night AFN - American Forces Network Bremerhaven. I heard also Cliff Richard with his first record "Move It". I knew from his first tone, he will become a world star!

You honour Roy by your cover of this lovely song! Your voice is very 1950s sounding. I hope you keep recording more 1950s songs/early 1960s songs. I wish my Dad was still here, as he was a big Roy Orbison fan and would've been impressed with you. He was from this era.
