Roy Phillips, what a beautiful man. I am 62 years old this year. The Peddlers, Three In A Cell LP used to blast out from my dads beloved stereo gram in our living room when I was a young girl in Greater Manchester, England. My dad loved them (he was a drummer) and so I have loved them all of my life too 😊 I went down a you tube rabbit hole last night and I am still wallowing in the beautiful velvety sounds and the words from this unforgettable group. I wish I could have seen them live. Sending my best wishes. Keep well Roy. xx

This is a lovely interview with roy Phillips from the peddlers. I had the pleasure of dating roy Phillips for a few years in the 60s In London I was a playboy bunny at the time. I went on to become a national skating coach for Canada I still love to hear his music and his voice

He's a wonderful singer and keyboard player as well as being very humble about his talents. I've only just discovered The Peddlers and am glad I did. Please pass on my warmest regards to him. :)

Hey poo bum the peddlers were a British group, I saw them in a nightclub in Auckland mid sixties. I'm a jazz player 55 plus years, listen to the preciseness of their playing, the improvisation, note bending, they are musicians musicians.

Love Roy and anything Peddlers. I remember well when The Peddlers hit NZ back about 70-71, they were on TV a lot, what a shame the tight NZBC didn't keep any of their video. Same goes for Quincy Conserve, ....they were on TV a lot back then as well, but no video exists today of their songs either.

Indeed Paul, Our group (The Web) played a bunch of Peddler's songs at Oliver's in Chew's Lane about then. Our bassist, Murray Loveridge joined Quinceys some time after. Good times....

We never heard of the Peddlers in the U.S. until their rendition of "On A Clear Day" was used on an episode of Breaking Bad. Great sound!

Yes the Peddlers were so polished and plenty could not believe this was a New Zealand group - Roy has a fantastic voice - good to see him looking so well

Plenty was right!! The peddlers were never from NZ, although they toured here frequently. Roy came to NZ After they disbanded.

That is quite correct, Russell quarterpounder.... Roy Phillips, (who, coincidentally, after their CBS recording period, recorded on the Philips label)......was born in 1941 [now aged 77] in Parkstone, Dorset, and drummer Trevor Morais was from Liverpool..... New Zealanders "took to the Peddlers"..... Well, New Zealanders are also passionate about lambs and sheep.... :).. In this video, Roy says he moved to NZ in 1981, and took well to the place and to the people there....

That's the guy I knew as Danny Birch. We often got compared to each other in looks and playing/vocal style. Don't ask me how this came about. To this day I knew him as Danny Birch!

The set designer for this programme should be shot. Roy Phillips is great but this song is crass; let this be a lesson to all songwriters: the word 'girlie' should never, ever, ever be used in a musical context (it's almost as bad as 'shorty'). It's been scientifically proven that certain words can induce nausea: `Frock, pants, poorly, girlie'. In fact, calling your partner 'girlie' could well lead to a lifetime of singularity. A moratorium on 'girlie' henceforth please.
@EricTricklebank6 жыл бұрын
The song was done on a previous occasion, not on this show, plus Im pretty sure it was a hit

Girly is vernacular, like darlin' duckie or honey.....

You have to remember that when it was written and recorded the world was quite a different place to what it is today.

@@g13flat That's true. I am a female of that era and there are lots of expressions that would be considered inappropriate or old fashioned now. At my age I would not object to someone calling me Girie, it would make my day!
@nicholaswalker32303 жыл бұрын
We had a girl in our town Girlie was her first name.. Later in life I met a second girl called Girlie. None of those girls were named after the song. Girlie is a better name then shitface.. ✅✅✅✅
