Roy Rogers Quick Shooter toy cap gun hat by Ideal commercial. Digitized by www.thewesternschannel.com from the Bob and Johnie Terry film archives. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Rogers did a lot of marketing. Everything from toys to cereals to salad dressings to a chain of restaurants. Make sure to watch for all the classic television commercials we are releasing from our film archives every morning in July of 2024. Thanks for watching.

After Trigger passed, he was stuffed and mounted at the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum. The museum was opened in 1967 and received close to 200,000 visitors to see the horse. P.S.-Sorry for ruining your childhood. :)

I never saw Roy Rogers show until recently with satellite stations. Son would watch it regularly. But I knew Roy Rogers, primarily because of Roy Rogers fast food restaurants and the ads. Loved our local one had sit-on horses with built-in trays for us kids to eat, and they gave us membership cards and wallet! Heck, when RR reincarnated (thanks to our locals in Frederick taking over ownership) we got membership cards as adults for deals!

Could you sell that today? Roy Rogers' sons got to test items that would bear his name. If the products could withstand them, they were good. According to his son Roy Jr., aka Dusty, he wasn't a fan of BB guns.

I don't now how this device escaped my attention. I was smack dab in the middle of their demographic. And would have incessantly whined to the Parents until they got me one. I did have the Mattel Shootin' Shell trick Derringer Belt Buckle to the Fanner Fifty Gun Belt Set -- You flexed out your gut, and the catch on the buckle pulled out of the barrel, the pistol swung out, and the un-seared hammer fell on a genuine Greenie Stickum cap, and pushed the rimmed cartridge forward, releasing the spring detents in the plastic projectile -- and BANG! I gotcha!. No you didn't. That's cheating. No it ain't -- you're dead. Great fun until my next door Buddy's bully big brother stole it. Bastard.

I'm guessing around 1959. I watched RR every week, and then the reruns. I do remember seeing this commercial on TV. Even as a kid I kind of thought it was a silly idea. I had the white handle 6-shooter in a real leather holster and the derringer in the belt buckle licensed from either Bat Masterson or Have Gun Will Travel. Shoveling snow or mowing at 25 cents would have taken a kid many months to save up that much dough. So It most likely would have been a birthday gift item if you were lucky. If you think of it as two items in one, you can see why it was a high end item. Plus Roy was getting his cut of the licensing rights to use his name and likeness to sell it. Roy was a smart cowboy.

@@darkwood777 But to pull the mask off the Lone Rangers face would be worth it, just to see the look on his face. And as he has a reputation of such great moral character, I don't think I'd get my ass kicked. Unless, the guy who played him doesn't. So, I guess I'd be too "yellow" to try it.

Well, one thing for sure. My dad wouldn't spend $5.95 for me to get that hat. I'm guessing it was 1957 and $5.95 was a good chunk of change for a toy hat/cap gun. The equivalent purchase today would be more than $55.00. So, no, not in my house. I was 7 in 1957 and sure did love Roy & Dale on TV.
