Thank you for the kind words. I wasn't sure when I was building it how it would actually run on the water, but I was pleasantly surprised how it easily planes and rides level in the water.

Roy, your video is the best one out there. Can you tell me if you used any filler and what was it, if you did, Also, did you use a stain and what was it, I'm thinking mimwax cherry. I've returned to your video many times, its been a great help. Craig
@royyared82182 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words Craig. I did not use any filler or stain. The mahogany wood darkened up when the epoxy was applied, and if you pull and glue the planks tightly together, no filler is needed. The planks are about 3/16" thick, so you sand all the planks down until they are smooth, rather than fill the low spots.

Great video thank you. Is the hull skinned with depron first?
@royyared82182 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if the white skin is called depron? It is very rigid like 1/8" plastic. It and the ribbed frame really do give the boat its strength and shape. The Mahogany wood is simply for looks and does not add any strength to the boat.

Roughly how many hours to build? I've built an RC boat before but never a Dumas kit. Is this using the recommended Dumas motor?
@royyared8218 Жыл бұрын
Roughly 100 hours. It's all 1 hour here and 2 hours there. A lot of waiting for glue to dry.

After watching you apply all the coats of lacquer, why didnt you rub it out until it was glass smooth?
@royyared82182 жыл бұрын
Jagitmax: Good Question! So actually it only takes 3 perfect coats to look great. The problem is that I do not have a spray booth. Each time I put on a lacquer coat, a nat or bug would fly into it. So I would sand it out and shoot it again. One time I accidentally touched the fresh lacquer coat with my hairy arm. One coat I actually dropped the entire boat on my shop floor. So when I say 11 coats of lacquer, it because it took me 11 try’s to get a coat without some unintended inclusion in it. Also I realized as soon as I was finished I was going to put it in a body of water with duck crap in it. So I got it as shinny as I could given it was for use and not display. Thanks for your comment!

Yes it is a Dumas kit. I cannot say enough great things about Dumas! The kit was complete with quality cut parts and very descriptive and understandable directions. It was really a joy to build.

Only from people such as myself that build them and resell them. There are no Dumas pre built Boats with RC installed and ready to go. I would be happy to sell you the one I built in the video. Email me directly at royyaredsemail@gmail.com for details. Thank you for your service!!

@@royyared8218 I'm not familiar with Dumas boats but would like to know the cost and lead time to purchase one (1) you have built. I appreciate your quick response.
@royyared82182 жыл бұрын
Mark Hensley; I would go to the Dumas boats website. They sell replacement parts for that boat. You can order a motor and speed controller, and you said you already upgraded your battery. I would buy the most powerful motor that they offer for that boat. That should do the trick.

What glue did you use for building this boat ?
@royyared82182 жыл бұрын
I used CA glue with a drying accelerator for the planking and almost everywhere else. The CA glue comes in normal, thick, or extra thick for different situations. In areas that need extra strengthening like the hull frame, I used 5 minute epoxy. In the video you can see the different glue bottles used off to the side on the work bench.

@markhensley78813 жыл бұрын
Roy, thank you for your video… very good overview! I inherited a 1/8 scale CC Cobra model built many years ago by father in-law. It’s one of my most valued possessions. It is fitted for RC, but components are old and the boat is very slow. I’ve upgraded the battery, but I suspect it could benefit from a more powerful motor. Any recommendations for a newbie?
