i was there in 1984, i had a few trips from raf stanley in the c130 refuelling the phantoms still got the photos great to look back on

Hello everyone I was at Stanley when tents where up and running and the weather was hard and cold but we all pulled together to make it work .And on good days we managed to get flights in c130 for photos of phantoms

From the Falklands to UK, they used it by doing Bravo config fuel load to take off from Stanley, then met tanker & filled all tanks to make it a Delta config fuel load to get to Ascension

Could you expand on what 'B' and 'D' fuel loads were. The normal procedure was to put 62,900 on at PSA and that would get you to ASI with Island Holding. Or was this for the F-4s?

The UK made a big mistake retiring their fleet of conventional aircraft carriers. Phantom FG.1s working together with Gannet AEW.3s overseeing the airspace would've devastated the Argentinian air force with great effect. The Argentinians wouldn't stand a chance or even dared trying to challenge these bulky Rhinos in air combat.

We only had one! and people who should know were quite dubious the old Ark could operate aircraft in the weather that was down there. It would have had a much bigger deterrent factor, granted.
