"Marche Henri IV" or "Vive Henri IV" is a popular French song celebrating King Henry IV of France. It served as the anthem of the French Monarchy. The melody comes from Thoinot Arbeau's work Orchesographie; it is the Branle Couppé "Cassandre", while the lyrics were written for a comedy opera in 1770. At later dates, more lyrics were added to the song and refers to the first Bourbon King of France, Henry IV (Henry III of Navarre), who had ended the Wars of Religion and restored peace to France. Additional lyrics supporting either the Revolutionary or Restorationist causes were sung during the course of the French Revolution.

La musique a été composée par Thoinot Arbeau et les paroles ont été écrites en 1770 dans la comédie La Partie de chasse de Henri IV. C'était une mélodie très populaire en France, dépassant même La Marseillaise au temps de la Révolution française. Pendant la Révolution, la chanson fut adopté par les Royalistes et les Républicains, mais avec des paroles différentes. La mélodie a encore été utilisé quand la monarchie Bourbon a été rétablie en 1814 pour créer l'hymne Le Retour des Princes français à Paris.

*EDIT:* Just learned that this is a common misconception about the lyrics and the lyrics are indeed referring to the enemies of France not peasant blood. However I’m still going to keep the comment up so if someone sees this they will be aware that this is not the correct narrative around the lyrics. The message behind that is true but the lyric you’re referring to actually means something a bit different “Impure blood” meant peasant blood, the lyric is basically stating, die for the glorious equal republic, which is still pretty fucked up but sadly not as metal…

Clovis I, also known as Chlodovech or Chlodwig, was a Frankish king who ruled from 481 to 511. He is considered one of the most significant figures in early medieval European history and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Merovingian dynasty and the Frankish Kingdom. Clovis was born around 466, and he became king of the Salian Franks at the age of 15 after the death of his father, Childeric I. At the time, the Frankish Kingdom was divided into several smaller tribes, and Clovis aimed to unite them under his rule. One of Clovis's most notable achievements was his conversion to Christianity. He was initially a pagan, but after marrying Clotilde, a Burgundian princess who was a devout Catholic, he converted to her faith. This conversion had significant political implications, as it helped Clovis gain the support of the Catholic Church and the Gallo-Roman population, who were predominantly Christian. Clovis's military campaigns were also crucial to his rise to power. He expanded the Frankish Kingdom through a series of successful military campaigns, conquering neighboring territories and tribes. He implemented a system of government based on personal loyalty and military service, known as the "comitatus."
