Friday September 1st 2017. A great day in the history of our Royal Canadian Air Force. The old colours were paraded and marched off for the last time, and the new colours of the RCAF were consecrated. The RCAF has only been presented new colours twice before. This was a once in a generation event, and a very proud day.
Sic itur ad astra (Such is the pathway to the stars).

Conway Smith There is a possibility sword drill has changed, unless they're required to dip their swords for the Governor General. I'm not that acquainted with what the manual states about sword drill.

Nice to see that it h as really changed . In 1986 I was the Assistant Base Warrant Officer in Trenton and was very proud to take a 100 man Honour Guard with Bruce (Stretch Mc Neil) to Toronto to the Warriors Day Parade. We also organized a 1000 man Parade prior to this . I'm retired since 2003 and am still very proud of these men and women that serve. I just wish the Air Command Band would let the public outside of the big cities see them live and feel the excitement of the sound.

As a former SrNCO who served for 30 years in the RCAF and CF, I appreciated the video; thanks fo sharing. Took me awhile (video long shot), to find out that the parade was taking place in Nathan Phillips Square. Just off the cuff; airmen were never very keen on parades, generally left to the other elements; personal technical ability matttered more than spit and polish.

I always thought the "commonwealth" had great pageantry. When the Canadians guarded the queen, I was glad to see the queen's guard actually had an effective rifle. Canadians use a version of the US M16.

As a Cree person (my username is more of a pseudo name), I was surprised to see such an Eagle Staff on parade, and am humbled we at least have SOME representation.. although honestly I still feel like more could be done on that front, but eh, that’s a whole other conversation lmao. Hope you’re staying safe during these wacky times, and great video, eh? 🇨🇦

The trooping of the colour is an odd thing for an air force to do. Historically the colour was a point of rally amidst the confusion of a battle and this was why it needed to be trooped through the ranks for the men to recognise their own regimental colours. In other words, this is an army and more specifically, an infantry tradition.

As a former member of the RCAF station Comox Guard of honour you central types were a bit sloppy. WO Walsh would have served up our tender bits to us on brass plates. Of course we won't discuss the officers, the poor wee things.

Picking bones out of an egg aren’t we? You criticized a civilian’s lack of knowledge towards military lingo but you can’t appreciate the simple fact that these civilians were there to support our troops and had uploaded this video for your pleasure for free. That to me is where the sad part lies.

Might have been 3 separate RCAF Bands on parade as a massed band, therefore each respective bands Drum Major would take their position in front. It is similarly seen at military tattoos.

Now all we need is some airplanes to fly that are less than 60 years-old. If this was the Americans they would have stealth fighters and bombers, attack helicopter, B-52s and B-1 s blasting by. Hell, they have more airplanes flying by at their football games. It's kind of pathetic.
@MrMASSEYJONES
@MrMASSEYJONES Жыл бұрын
I was in the RCAF during the fifties, when 16 planes (or more) flew in box formations, just for Air Force Day. Integration and cutbacks took care of the flypasts; now restricted to a single high speed flypast.. For an airforce event of such importance, someone in Ottawa sure counted Pennie’s; I would have expected transport and helicopters to make an appearance! But I still have to watch Part 2.
