There's a fire on our first cruise ever. We were passengers on board the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas that's being evacuated due to a fire on the ship.

For anyone wondering why he captain didn’t sound the horn it’s because they only sound it if the vessel may require assistance. In this case, the ship only had to go back to the nearest port, so no other ships were needed. The captain was also likely to have notified other vessels in the area, in the event of having to abandon ship.

jinga roblox disney only has 4 ships where as Carnival and Royal Caribbean have 26 ships each. if Disney somehow got that many ships you would hear of incidents from them. It's mechanics, it's almost guaranteed to happen at some point.

did you see the flames at all? I don't think anyone was able to obtain video of the fire itself. when I saw it, looked out my window when the captain told us it was in the aft section of the ship, I saw that it was confined to the port corner of the stern. Tons of fiery smoke billowing out of that area, and then as we watched a rather large explosion - I thought our sliding glass door was going to implode and ducked. Luckily it did not, but after the explosion, the fire seemed to have spread

QU4YL3Y2K12 the horn is only used to alert other ships around that you will need help. It works like an SOS message. In this case the situation was under control, no backup would be needed

No the horn should sound at the same time as the alarm to warn other ships that you have an emergency and that you MAY require assistance. The passing ship will then wait nearby to help you. It comes under maritime law.

It's been so long I forgot where the fire was exactly. I think was on floor 7. It was in the rear of the ship. Someone in the comments linked the report on it before. When we did our muster drill they don't hand you life jackets and have you wear them. But this was my first cruise so I'm not sure if that's the norm. This was also at like 2 am. They lowered the life boats briefly and I was prepared to board them. But after some time they raised them back up. They determined the fire was enough under control to have us remain on the ship until it could make an unscheduled stop in Nassau escorted by the coast guard.

i went on a cruise 2 years ago and the first day, around evening time, some fat lady got sea sick so they had to turn the whole baot around and go back we were eating dinner so everyones plates slid off the table XD I was pissed that we lost a day but it was nice cuz the day we missed was sort of rainy so we were able to sort of skip that day and go scuba diving the next day cuz it was so nice and sunny out if they didn't turn the boat around we wouldn't have had anything to do haha

It was definitely the bridge. I have learn't that they have access to all safety controls. The captain can activate all alarms and declare an abandon ship.

The ship left from Baltimore, MD. It took us 2 days to get to Florida. The fire started about 2am the morning after we left Florida for the Bahamas. We never made it to our island, we had to make an unscheduled stop at Freeport, Bahamas to evacuate the ship.

nice way of recording, very steady and clean. just got back from carnival paradise, we lost power in tampa for two hours before living port, but all came back ok, nov i am taking a 14 day one on niew amsterdam, holland america. to many boats out there, of course thing can happen, but is the way you deal with it at the end.

The passengers? We did not end up having to board the life boats. However, we did make an unscheduled stop at Freeport to evacuate the ship. We were flown back to Baltimore from Freeport, our flights were paid for. But they lost a lot of people's luggage.

Robert Graham to get on the ship you had to have some form of ID so I don't think that would of been an issue for anyone. However, some of my stuff got thrown out because I could not bring it on the flight e.g. large shaving cream etc. We were not planning on flying so we didn't pack to. Royal Caribbean reimbursed us in full for the cruise and gave a certificate for the same amount to use on another cruise within 1 year which we ended up using. They also paid for the flights. A big hassle was that the airline lost a lot of people's luggage. They were in an unexpected rush to fly everyone to Baltimore and didn't seem to care if your luggage was on your flight or one that arrived 8 hours later. We had to drive back the next day to find our stuff.

No. we thought we were as they began to lower them but we ended up staying most of the night in the theater room while they fought the fire. Hours later they had it under control and we were allowed to walk around the rest of the ship until we docked in Freeport.

There are elevators and transport blankets to get from the upper floors if needed. As for if they had to load people into the life boats, I'm not sure. I assume crew would assist.

Concordia was idiotic and careless actions of the master of the vessel and lack of training and direction towards crew members. Working for a cruise line there are all sorts of incidents that not even most crew members are aware that have happened let alone guests. Cruise ships are not a death trap, they have well trained crew members (Well at least the company i work for) that can deal with any situation that arises and 99% of the time you wouldn't even be aware anything has happened. I agree with @exaggerated Stories that have you a better chance of losing your life if your plane was to crash than being very unfortunate to be caught in a Cruise ship evacuation, even then when mustered to assembly stations on a cruise ship you are mainly mustered in case they need to potentially abandon ship. The best life boat you have is the vessel it self and not the life boats / Rafts. Abandoning ship is the upmost last resort and will be very unlikely that you will abandon ship. Cruise Ships have Bravo Response teams that work on a rotation for a on duty team, but in instances like this all teams would be activated to respond to the location. All Bravo response teams are trained in; Fire, grounding, collision, oil/chemical spill and man over board. The equipment they have to use is also most likely better than you would find on land. Every engine room and machinery and electrical space is equipped with HI-FOG, CO2 suppression. They are regularly drilled on different situations on at least a weekly basis if not more.

Depends on the company, the flag of the ship and the nationality of the ship. I know a few companies and flags i wouldnt set my foot on as a passenger or crew member. Good rule of thumb: the countries youd fear to drive in are roughly the same nationalities you wouldnt want to sail under. The more chaotic traffic at home, the more chaotic on the workplace. Most passengerships however have great safety systems. I can guarantee you that you wont find a quicker fire response team in a hotel or mall than you do on a ship. Takes 5 minutes tops until you have smokedivers with firehoses ready to use. The large amount of fireposts ireposts reach anywhere on the ship without a problem. Takes 5 seconds from a fire post being closed to get water shooting out of the nozzle. The crew will not save themselves first, that doesnt happen. In costa concordia it was the Captain and Chief officer who left. I believe it was a senior 1st officer who took over the responsibility on the bridge. The two Italians (hint) are an exception, not a rule.
