📜 history of the building:
The castle was founded in the second half of the 14th century (probably in the years 1357-1370) on the initiative of king Casimir III the Great. The complex was built on a quadrangle plan (measuring 60×40 m) with an impressive main tower (with an octagonal superstructure) in the southwestern corner and a two-story residential building ('Old House') in the eastern wing. The gate tower and entrance were located on the western side, and the castle could only be reached by a drawbridge from the city side. The whole was surrounded by a perimeter wall and a moat fed by water from the nearby Bzura River. The foundations of the building were built of stone, while the rest was made of brick. The remaining buildings in the castle courtyard were made of wood. In 1406, the stronghold was largely destroyed by fire, especially the wooden utility buildings. The castle underwent a thorough renovation in the years 1563-1565, when the then mayor of Łęczyca, John Lutomirski, built a three-storey 'New House' by the gate, added one storey to the 'Old House', strengthened the perimeter walls and added guard porches to them. The corner tower was also enlarged at that time, covered with a new roof and topped with a Renaissance attic. In later years, the castle did not undergo modernization and remained in its original Gothic form. The main reason for this state of affairs was the fact that after the Teutonic threat had ceased, the building ceased to serve as a border fortress. The fall of the Łęczyca stronghold is connected with the years of the Swedish Deluge: during the fighting in 1656, the castle suffered significant damage from artillery fire and fires. During another armed conflict with Sweden in 1705, the local stronghold finally fell into ruin. In 1788, the gate tower collapsed. Further degradation of the building occurred in the 19th century, when the ruins became a source of building material for the local population. In this way, the peripheral walls and the octagonal superstructure of the main tower were almost completely demolished. The destructive procedure stopped only around 1840. The reconstruction and reconstruction of the castle was carried out in the years 1964-1976. At that time, the octagonal superstructure of the main tower, the 'New House', the gate tower and the peripheral walls were recreated. The 'Old House' has not survived, but a powder magazine building has been located by the eastern wall, which houses the remains of this structure. In its heyday, the castle in Łęczyca hosted many crowned heads. Władysław Jagiełło (allegedly 36 times!), Casimir IV Jagiellon, Sigismund III Vasa (in 1587 and 1623), as well as the Swedish king Charles XII (during the war in 1705) visited here.

Trochę pech, bo miałbym więcej ujęć znad zamku, a tak nad dużymi zgrupowaniami ludzi nie latam bezpośrednio ze względów bezpieczeństwa. Z drugiej strony, pogoda piękna, a zabytek służy ludziom. To cieszy. No i były też stragany, to się kwasu chlebowego napiłem :)
