I remember catching a very small propeller plane from Norwich to Edinburgh one Sunday afternoon after visiting my parents. Four passengers including me and didn’t realise it was Prince William and one Royal Protection officer making up two of the others until half way through the flight when the single hostess asked if I’d mind to wait back until he got off. (He had been at Sandringham visiting his Gran). One single Range Rover pulled up near the plane when he got on at Norwich. A whole entourage when we landed at Edinburgh to take him up to St Andrews University. Closest I’ll ever be to my future King. I felt a bit out of place then getting out of the plane with my supermarket plastic bag and walking across the tarmac into the terminal with many faces pressed up against the glass expecting him.

Back in the 1970s, Prince Charles flew on a regularly-scheduled BA flight from London. The one concession to having the Prince of Wales on board was that the plane first taxied to the Air Force annex. The Prince and his entourage disembarked. Then the plane taxied to Terminal 1 to deplane the rest of the passengers and the crew.
