I think the Princess of Wales planned surgery was not expected until summer break maybe. However things got worse and Wliliam rushed her to the hospital just after Christmas. so it might have been planned ,but perhaps not for her busy time.

As a woman, from what I can observe, it was an emergency surgery. It appeared to be worse than it was anticipated. That's why she had to stay in the hospital for observation. I pray she gets well soon, I truly enjoy Princess Catherine of Wales and her family. She's a God sent to all Royals, worked hard to fit in, and does very well with the whole Royals Family and Monarchy in general.
