never used a tail tidy on one of these but i usually fit a rear rack on the guard. that looks pretty good and is usually sourced from a harley sporter 883

you could just unscrew the 4 hex bolts to the passenger seat the bolt a rack to it and i still think you'd get something for your trouble

What do you do with the hole left by the bar that holds the seat? Do you leave it as is or do you use some kind of a bolt to cover it?

just leave it as is from the angle it's pretty hard to see it anyway.

at min 12:45 you mention the battery leds. I just had my 2012 500 give me issues on the start up. I got it starting again after a few minutes of poking, pulling and prodding, and got it home. I was thinking it was a short in the strobe lights or battery tender the previous owner added. but after hearing this i am thinking i ought to check out this issue. what should i look for?

first off i'd be giving the battery a full charge and see how its holding out or if it hasnt been used much and need replacing. if you start an early 500 which you have with a bad or slow battery you risk damaging the sprag clutch which was a know issue in early models i know i have every year from 2012 to 2020 15 new bikes in total. after that while you have the battery out slit both terminal ring plastics pos and neg and look for a possible crack or broken eyelet. this happend under the plastic so a visual is worthless.better still replace both eyelets with hd ones as they suffer from vibration fatigue. also check that small black lead which comes off the neg and goes through left side case to ecu. early bikes are know to chaff at the point where the black earth wire enters the case and causes shorts and stoppages. also do the same to bare wires coming out of the healight narcelle.

I removed my pillon seat. I enjoy the look loads better. However how tight does the bolts at the top of the rear suspension need to be? I feel like to tight and I might be smashing something or throwing off the alignment of something? Help!

if your talking about your top rear shock t0wer bolts if concerned. undo and re-tighten till nut beds up against the tower support and add roughly another full turn

length of bolt is 20 cm or 8 inches and the gauge is 8 mm in diameter. partly treaded nut end but full thread would work too

so in my shed is a 6 month old 500 Bullet (been there less than a week with 1000k's on it) and I would like to add a sidecar of my own design. ? besides the battery any thing else that I need to look for. Oh and I have a single seat that I am going to replace the twin single piece with and there is no way I can get the left hand end of the handle bar plug off or out for the mirror the right came out without any worry, I have a feeling that it may have been slow dropped as the only damage I can find was a very loose left foot peg that the end of the rubber is a mess and the steel has broken through the rubber. so we are are talking the newer uce motor not an iron barrel job. these are from 2009 onwards? once the battery is out i'd be checking both positive and neg leads to make sure that they are secure and are not cracked or broken under the shrink wrap where the lead connects to the battery terminal. after that I would go over the whole bike and tighten every thing up as i'm sure you'd find something loose on it. then check the plug. if its a bosche -replace it immediately with a ngk bpr 6es - that should help start you off

Until I get some paperwork from the bike shop it is most likely a 2017/18 end of year sale and then not liked due to weight. hence the slow drop as there a few small things showing up that point to that, Though Just out in the shed and my handheld LED flashed over what maybe some rear of motor frame welding ex-factory that the paint is different under the light I was using so search tomorrow.The battery will end up larger and in the sidecar as I plan on camping trips etc so a that will clean up the look of the bike in the long run. @@oldbugger501fine. a good battery to replaced the factory is a motobatt mbtx14au -good fit with great cranking power. 017 and 018 bikes are fine and better put together unit than earlier models too -especially in the wiring areas
