Great chat and interesting you saying 27 bhp is fun on the 500s. That's definitely a Indian market 2016 Model classic 500. From 2017 Indian models Tank is not bolted and got a side stand down switch, single spark and got EFI. All 500 models were discontinued from Feb 2020 in India. Iam from India and I own a 2017 model 500. This bike got its own character.

The locking fuel cap did used to be on the UK bikes but was changed in the last few years for a more authentic looking screw in cap. ABS appeared with the rear disk for the Euro 4 bikes, made from late 2017 onwards, which I believe applied worldwide. The front name plate is not on Indian market bikes because of the additional front number plate.

I am so glad my vintage British motorcycles are pure motorcycles not touched by government regulations. I love my BSA C-15 250 singles in both street bike and dirt bike versions. Room enough for 2 up because they were made to be real transportation not a child's toy. My Triumph TR25W " Turd" goes faster in the dirt than I want to go. Big touring HD's weigh more than my URAL side car outfit.l can't imagine picking up one of them with out a crane. My Triumph TR25W is light enough for me to put it on a milk crate to do chain maintenance . So blessed to have my little critters.

Despite the EFI, o2 sensors etc. these bikes still have character. I quite like carbs and minimal technology on a bike. I suppose there’s advantages and disadvantages either way. Modern bikes don’t need a drip tray left under them, and they’re more reliable. But if there are any issues you’re less likely to be able to fix it yourself with a simple tool kit. Euro legislation has left bikes running ultra lean. I fitted a booster plug to richen the mixture, but it’s a shame we have to find a way around the ridiculous restrictions. There will come a time that we won’t be allowed to make such changes. Many thanks. Nice to hear about your old bikes. I have a 64’ AJS 350 in the garage. One fine day I’ll get around to fixing it up and taking it out 🤞🏼

Wonderful commentary and chat, gents! Here I sit, in southwestern USA (New Mexico) with a new-to-me 2018 Classic in battle green in my garage. Just found it on marketplace, drove up to Denver over the weekend and she followed me home in my truck bed. The side cover had been off as the young lad who owned it claimed shifting issues. I inserted a wavy washer on the shifter shaft as some of these bikes are a bit loose where the shaft rides in the right hand cover. It shifts fine on the centerstand through the gears so a few more bits 'n pieces need to go on and I'm off! My daily commute is on a BMW 1200RT which is a stellar machine but for it's purpose of covering miles with speed and comfort. The Enfield just captured my heart, taking me back to my early days on a Yamaha 650 twin. If I could only transport myself and my new "green machine" over the pond it would be splendid to share a ride with you....on the wrong side of the road, but I won't hold that against you. Cheers from America!

Also on euro 4 with rear disc the ecu is more sophisticated. The only real difference as I have had a few is smoother from closed throttle and starting from cold it idles straight away from stone cold in winter whereas the earlier ones you have to warm them a little before it will idle. Not much, 30sec or a minute.

Very entertaining vid. Thanks. My 2015 Classic 500 has the 02 sensor although ive taken it off as it runs better. My fuel tank has the locking filler cap but no big bolt throgh the front. I also have the side stand switch which can be problematic. A lit of people unplug them. With it connected, the engine wont run when its down even in neutral

The o2 sensor was fitted from 2018 models onwards due to all bikes becoming efi. Getting ahead of euro5. The twin spark idea is for a cleaner burn and also a more rapid burn giving more power on compression, so in theory Marks bike is quicker off the mark. The heal toe is a pain I have found. Some like it. You know how much I love those 500s. I still haven't ridden anything since that makes me feel the way those bikes do. Still high on my buy next list. For years I wanted that feeling of being a kid on a bike, the 500 does that. The 350s don't. Was that centre stand on a BMW 1200 LT? Huge bikes but brilliant. Until they go wrong! Would you let anyone else wash it🤣🤣
@Saddlebags732 жыл бұрын
I find the o2 sensor thing confusing, because although Marks is a 16’ model, it is still efi 🤔 I assume the Indian model runs a twin spark to handle lower grade fuel? I wondered if his would have any more power. We may have to investigate that further, with some 0-40 tests 🤣 Never had the pleasure of the heel toe shifter, but have been quite happy without one so far. Nothing quite like the 500’s is there ER. They’re addictive I’m sure. The self retracting stand was on Ken’s 850GS. I suppose the cylinder stops it falling too far 🤪 Thank you mate 👍🏼

Thanks for this lovely video, enjoyed it very much, including fine sense of humour😜. I love my recently purchased C5 like you do. Except some minor details like too many tastelessly chromed plastic parts: I removed the two plastic covers on the starter motor. Going to replace the ugly rear mirrors for some nice clean stainless steel ones. Don’t like the cheap looking round caps on the swing arm axle either. Would have much preferred some sleek black rubber plugs covering the holes. If anyone has a nice solution please let me know! Finally I am looking to replace the plasticky and fat looking indicator units. But no fancy LED lights please. Could anyone recommend some nice round medium to small sized indicators preferably with some nice sleek polished aluminium housings? Keep up the nice and authentic vids lads👍

Hi, I am planning to bring my classic 500 from India in next few weeks. The only thing I am worried about is having rear drum brakes. From your experience what do you reckon about the maintenance of drum brake pads? Where do you get these changed in UK?
@Saddlebags73 Жыл бұрын
Hi, How amazing. Will you ride the bike here? It’s been years since I fitted any drum brakes but I seem to remember it being quite a simple task. However if you aren’t confident in doing it yourself there is a good network of Royal Enfield dealers and service providers. A Google search should show them. You shouldn’t be too far from one wherever you are, hopefully.
@IndianBulletInLondon Жыл бұрын
Hi @@Saddlebags73, First of all, thank you so much for replying in time. And yes, I am planning to ride it here in UK. Actually I reached out to a couple of stores here in London, they seemed to have very little idea about availability of drum brake pads. That's what got me skeptical about all this in first place. Another work around I am thinking about is to get the rear drum brakes converted to disc ones in India itself before getting it shipped here. Let's see how it goes. Also, I would love to meet you personally( once I have my motorbike here) if I ever get opportunity for the same. Thanks🤗

Question SB do you get more pleasure out of riding your Enfield's than you did with Nikita or your latest big bike ? I ask this because I am at an age where I am starting to think that lighter and less power could be more enjoyable . Having said that I do still like having a good level of power for when I feel like flying but maybe not so much the weight of my 1200 Yam . How interesting that I have written this before watching this vid and I am thinking this has answered my question to a great extent . I think during my time riding I have had most fun on my old Z650 and a old GS 550 Suzuki 4 cylinder ,perhaps I should go back to that or maybe I will never find what I am seeking who knows fer me I am aware time is running out so am I just panicking because I do not have enough of it to try all that is out there and what it has to offer.😉👍 Good watch !!
@Saddlebags732 жыл бұрын
Hi Crumblymal! No short answer to this. The Classic 500 is the most fun I’ve had on a motorcycle since learning to ride my friends FS1E on a farm as a kid. I made a couple of statements in very early videos on this bike, which I still stand by today. 1. This bike has rekindled a flame that I didn’t realise was going out. 2. On paper, this bike is terrible. In reality it’s probably the best bike I’ve ever owned. It’s very hard to put into words, but almost everyone that owns one seems to feel the same way. They are charming and endearing, and raise a smile every time. As I said during the video, they feel vibrant and alive, and after owning one other bikes seem to be missing something. Nikita (Z900rs) is a thrill, don’t get me wrong. But when just going out for fun, I have walked past her many times to jump on Ernie. BUT…at the moment, I don’t think the Classic would work as an only bike. I still want a bigger bike for the longer rides. You are limited to some extent on the 500, as it’s happiest at 50-60mph, and much over that feels a bit of a strain. However, as I get older it may well suffice. The Himalayan doesn’t have the same level of character, and I haven’t ridden a new 350 so couldn’t pass comment on that. I would recommend anyone to try a 500, and would be surprised if they didn’t like it. I spent years of going bigger better faster more, only to find the most pleasure from this little, somewhat agricultural single cylinder. I’ve reached my waffle quota for the week, and it’s only Tuesday 🤦🏻♂️ Many thanks my friend 👍🏼
