I don’t have a single drop of Spanish/Hispanic/Latin blood in me. Not nearly, I am Scot/Irish by blood and American by nationality, but this scene still gives me goosebumps and chills. It reminds me to be immensely proud in being a European by blood, Westerner and Roman Catholic by religion and to never let them shame me for that. Much respect to my distant European cousins and friends in Spain/The Spanish and Iberian people! As well as those scattered in Latin America! The original script was not flawed at all and very accurate, written after deep historical research and with the help of the Spanish archives. Ridley Scott changed a lot of it to please American viewers and their flawed knowledge and perspective of history.

cripplehawk There is a very famous one in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and that one is called "botafumeiro". anyway it was a device used in spanish ancient cathedrals to spread good smell over the crowd. remember that we are at the end of the middle age and population don't used to have remarkable hygienic habits.

The cinematography of this scene is astounding and truly majestic. Everything, from the realistic way of the dresses to the music and the scenery. This scene, is among the best in cinema history.
