Royal India Restaurant

Royal India Restaurant was founded in the year 1905 by Mr.Ahmed Hussein. He was originally from Lucknow and having great passion about foods. Till now Royal is continuing their delicacy of Awadhi Mughlai style cuisine.
Royal is famous for its biriyani and chanp. I have tasted their Mutton Kofti Biriyani, it was superb in taste and in aroma, but very lite on tummi. Along with biriyani I tasted their legendary mutton chanp. Chanp was once a monopoly of Royal. Superb suttle taste of whole garam masala and the meat. In the dessert I ordered Firni, a sweet dish made by milk, rice flour and zafran.

In Awadh area Lucknow,Avadh biryani is prepared on slow heat and wood from tamarind tree Not used anywhere else. Even in Lucknow,these will be available in select pocket, especially in the old areas of Lucknow. From New Delhi.

Yes, you are right, traditionally tamarind wood is used to cook biryani, cause that tamarind wood provides consistent fire, it maintains the perfect low heat which is required to cook biryani in dum. I knew about few restaurants of Hyderabad from other KZbin videos, that they also use tamarind wood.

First time I am watching your channel and that too with my favourite one the league itself - Royal Indian Hotel. I have been the third generation to be an ardent fan of this giant of kolkata Awadhi Food since my childhood. I know many people don't like the Biriyani of this joint as they compare Biriyani's goodness with Alu and Big Sized mutton of which definately they are missing here in Royal but Royal has its unique and authentic taste. Lastly your video I have enjoyed a lot as long as restaurant history, Biriyani History are given. The main hotel in Burrabazar hosted the great Bade Ghulam Ali Khan at their upper portion of the building during his tenure while he visited kolkata for short period of time also.

There was another old episode of Royal Indian hotel the original restaurant in Chitpur . There the host took us on the rooftop of that hotel give us a view of old charm busy North Calcutta and the chef showed the recipe of authentic Royal Indian hotel chicken chaap. I tried the same at home and and it was out of the world. You may find the same recipe in KZbin and you should try that at home
