I am now 84 and I did my RM Cdo training at Bickleigh in Devon in 1953. All of our speed marches were done in full fighting order and carrying weapons. The final speed march, the 9 miler had to be completed in 90 minutes and included a 900yd rundown at the end and firing at targets on the way down. Speed marching is done at the double which is what the guys in this video are doing. They are not fully equipped because this is one of many such speed marches they did to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines. It may look easy but even in this strip when running uphill and down it is not as comfortable as running in PT strip. If you have never undergone RM or Para training don't take the piss because you do not know what you are talking about.

Had a mate called Paul Bates who was a Royal Marine in the 80s , he was a right lazy arse at school cheated on the cross country runs etc , never really played sports ...after we left school he joined the Royal Marines and AFTER he had completed his training and got his beret I used to see him around our old village doing runs with a rucksack full of sand on his back !!!! while he was on leave ! ...damn they sure changed that guys life around and his whole attitude respect to you wherever you are now Paul Bates AKA Ern (after his Dad as I recall ) shout out to his younger brother Mark who was a weed at school and I believe left school and stayed a weed ! .

The 9 mile speed march was one of the hardest yomps I've done next to the 30 mile endurance march across the moor, but worth every step, and we proved its worth during the long yomp from San Carlos to Teal inlet.....

In 2011 was discharged 'Unfit Military Service' after 12 weeks of training at Lympstone due to a 'medical issue' and the insurance shite surrounding it. Absolutely gutted as a 19 year old with his mind set on a green lid, but that's life.

Great stuff. My dad often recounted his experience of the speed march from Spean Bridge station to Achnacary House (in 1941) after which he went to 43 Commando. He loved everything about the Marines.

Well, I'm not British, but it certainly makes me proud to belong to the Commonwealth. The British army is the finest in the world and I'm glad we're affiliated. :)

It is a good pace to jog at. I am 65. Running 43 years. Have gone back to the speed march pace I did in the 70's in the TA 5th Battalion the Royal Anglian Reg. I am doing 5 or 12 miles jogs listening to pod casts and audio books. I find this less damaging to my well worn bones. And hiking with small back pack speed up the time.with short jogs. British Forces are second to none. Do some weights. Go for a 5 or 12 mile jog. Relax afterwards with a cold beer .Heaven.
