As a Taiwanese,I met a few marine soldiers or “frog men” in the past. They all considered the road to heaven to be one of the highlight of their life. When facing difficult situations they’ll think “You’ve been through that,how hard can this be” so I would say when it comes to self confidence and pride,it works well. But imo the training before you get to this final stage,that is truly mind blowing. There’s a documentary by National Geographic about this,I recommend it if anyone is interested.

Im a little surprised even a Royal Marine believes you can come out with a “victor” when comparing completely different Special Forces groups. For example, the SEALs are almost entirely trained for maritime operations such as invading a ship, beach, ect. The SAS isnt. I believe they are very well trained in counter terrorist/hostage or VIP operations. You cant just compare the two and say one is better than the other. And just because you play Arma 3 24 damn 7 doesnt mean you know what you are talking about *(not to the Royal Marine but to the people who think you can compare people trained for two totally different things).*

I think that getting shot and crawling through the rocks can have some benefits. Like, if russian operatives storm the building they don't have this little fear inside their head of being shot. Why? Because they were shot during training. They experienced being shot and they know that their gear will protect them. Crawling through the rocks can imitate the bad landing on the rocky beach. For example, if enemy has some MG nests and they are shooting at you and you are on the rocky beach with no cover, what would you do? You crawl through this rocks to gain cover and engage an enemy. And you have done this during training, without your equipment and everythink, so it's not so bad now. So i think these two can by counted as conditioning and gaining faith in your own gear and abbilities.

My only argument with the rocks would be that in order to truly condition a soldier to crawl through a field of rocks without hesitation is that they would have to do that exercise multiple times, in order to get it into their heads that that is normal and that they can do that easily. If they only do it once, and as a big test, they dread the rock run and look back on it as a bad thing, which, if anything, would make them more reluctant to to crawl through 150 feet of rock the next time they were forced to.

The Russians shooting themselves in the chest is an interesting one. On one hand yes I agree it’s defiantly an unnecessary training drill. On the other hand.. I’ve seen the full video & it’s very interesting kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHqTYqSBdtaMqtU These are ‘advanced drills’ they say, only done by the higher end of special forces drills. When it’s done by a small team that works together all the time, an 8 man SAS team, Seal Team 6 etc... you get real trust with your teammates, life & death trust. It’s also good to feel what it’s like to get hit with bullets, even in the vest. It’s good to build up mental strength to being shot, & shot at.. Having a highly trained team thats able to do drills like this makes them far superior to other teams with the same training but lacking the experience of being shot & shot at.. See the guy in the video, he got shot & it was like nothing to him.. When you see shooting on tv & movies people get blow back & all kinds of misinformation. Even on the range, what are you shooting, targets.. steel, wood etc usually not moving.. non threatening.. static targets that go ‘ting’ when you hit them.. Ask any army person who’s actually been to war & had rounds going over their heads & seeing your teammates being shot & real scenes of war. You can’t get that kind of training on the range during basic training.. Same as being shot... the first time you get shot is in a combat situation, most people panic & that might be the end for them. If you’re trained in being shot, even in the vest. It will help you stay mentally in the fight & hopefully win.

Crawling across the rocks I think is somewhat practical. I imagine a bound soldier taking an opportunity to escape captivity crawling away from the captors position across rugged terrain. I think this rock crawling, like the long run could give a soldier confidence to percervier through it or even encourage them to make an initial attempt at all. Family is present in the training perhaps as an aid to remind a captured soldier that family is back home and escape means getting back home to family. The cuts and damage to their bodies seems fairly superficial, the salt water seems quite excessive however, torture can be a part of captivity and perhaps it's even low-key being used to prevent the soldiers from getting infections in their cuts during that portion of training.

I think the pain training can actually work to build a soldier's pain tolerance. Personally I haven't joined the military yet but I feel like a soldier's pain tolerance can be built through well pain. I believe that could work due to my own personal experience as I have broken 7 bones and suffered other painful injuries throughout my 20 year life and my friends and I all agree that my pain tolerance is through the roof compared to theirs. None of them can take the same amount of pain I can without flinching and are just more afraid of feeling pain than me and I believe its due to the fact that my pain tolerance has been built through pain. I'm not trying to sound tough or anything and I could be totally wrong. I'm 20 I'm still young and naive so may be I'm wrong but its just my opinion

But those wouldn't make it into a list of "craziest military training", haha. Another point is that maybe it's their way of instilling a sense of pride and state of mind to push themselves further. I'm not comparing it to the SAS or Navy Seals. Just my two cents! Edit: Except the hot potato one that's just murderous lol.

In my opinion, the road to heaven is actually a great exercise for the military. Crawling across sharp rocks shows that the soldiers can push on while enduring constant pain, it also shows that they are able to complete the expected tasks (the stops). Yes of course all branches have extreme exercises, but a lot of this is unnecessary such as shooting live rounds and taking live rounds. Breaking rocks with your head is completely useless hahahaha, where as crawling across sharp rocks with wounds (and if on a beach) covered in salt water is completely possible. . Also, I see cold weather training as a good thing to do even if you are not joining a military branch. I am only 16 and not going through training just yet, but being able to endure cold and harsh weather is always a good thing Love the video keep them up!

Training in the Canadian military you have to pass a test and the end of the field week which entails a few things including a 7km rucksack march and a stretcher carry with all your rucksacks. Within this is a test called “the leopard crawl” where you crawl on your belly with only your knees and elbows while carrying your rifle in your arms over sometimes rocky terrain . We trained twice for this before the final test where i was 1st or 2nd(there was no actual placing) but at a cost of having my elbows ripped to the point where i had both bleeding right through my combats and soaking a large area of my arms with blood. This not only happened once but 3 times where the scabs were re-opened and torn by the preceding time. Being put through this kind of pain helped me overcome physical strain by mentally blocking it out. It really tests your will to continue the challenge

For the road to heaven, it’s doesn’t really do anything for the soldier because that is a one in a thousand situation that they have to crawl on rocks, but it’s more for being a final path towards the end goal(frogmen). It’s also teaching them to endure pain. It symbolizes the hard path that the soldiers have had to take to get to the end goal.

"some people will disagree with the SAS being the best" America has entered the chat but yes our SAS our the best there is its the reason they train so many other special force units

In regards to tied hands in the seal training, I’d say its about proving\selecting the personnel that wont flap underwater in the most intense circumstances. I’d fail on that one, swimming was always my week point.

So you did 3 years in the marines, barely made it through, no experience in the job, got bullied as soon as you arrived...and now you’ve made a KZbin Channel giving advice, bloody hell

USMC veteran here....everyone has a pain tolerance and a physical strength limit....it’s the mental strength that’s important in combat. Are you going to keep pushing or are you going to give up when it gets hard?
@friendlyatheist3874 жыл бұрын
"the road to heaven" you called it worthless? Totally hopping around in mud is real deal.... A soldier going though pain makes them more stronger in case they are captured. You know you are a soldier yourself. You might find it worthless but it will help those soldiers to overcome the pain if they have to crawl through such tarrain in combat operation
@de204 жыл бұрын
Yea, seemed like a really biased video. There are tons of better ways to build unit cohesion and mental toughness other than playing in the mud too

The one abt the rocks that’s actually a good way to train because yea you’ll feel pain but you can tolerate it and it’ll help when you get shot it won’t affect your performance in war. Like the videos where minks train to take hits in their necks with wooden stick and it not hurt, same concept it’ll help make your pain tolerance high💯

A navy seal training show is called surviving the cut 2 weeks in hell. It takes you through the final 2 weeks of seal training and then there are other episodes that show you american military training for other various groungs like rangers, paramilitary rescue, etc.

Those Taiwanese frogmen are some of the most respected special ops. They are used as amphibious spies and are built to withstand anything.

All through my basic training and OSUT for the army was the winter cycle in Missouri, so all my training was cold weather oriented and you for sure get used to it after a while. It was brutal but made us better soldiers

Blanks can still kill someone. Warning this story includes suicide. My dad was a custodian at a highschool a while ago and they had a theater class that needed to use a gun for their play. One of the kids had a mentality disorder and ended up grabbing the gun and I think pointed it at other students. One of the students said to stop because it could hurt someone and then the kid pointed the gun at his own head and talked back and forth with the student. He ended up firing it and the blank went in his head killing him. My dad ended up having to clean up all of the blood that was on the floor :(

What you said about the one with the snow is kinda contradicting what you said about the one with fire and smoke. Fire and smoke is very common in battles and it lets the soldier's body get used to the hot and smoky environment, especially in countries with very hot climates. You probably couldn't relate because the UK has a cold climate and you mostly trained in a cold environment.

I have to take my hat off to you. You have shown a ton of respect to other S.F. Units. That says a lot about you as a man and serviceman. I appreciate you for that alone. Thank you for your service to your country and may your life be blessed.

Swimming in the cold water (navy seals US) is practical and necessary (one of the few). They can and will be deployed anywhere in the world so they prepare for every environment. Sea air and land. If you don’t do any cold water exercises how can they effectively tackle a cold water mission?

Half of the things you question making a better soldier, are not meant to make them a better soldier. Half those units, are kill squads, or lastman standing defending units. its meant to make them obedient, and less fearful of pain.
