To all the people that think this is bullshit, you're probably right but i believe that in a hand to hand combat situation (which never goes as planned, its not a dance routine) these technics serve as solid, reliable foundations to get you out of that situation. After all the British have been doing this for years...
@aaronaaron8604

Yeah....some of the techniques here were solid.....but many were not. This was highly choreographed.

Yes some of it was good others were bs prime example the leaping choke where he put his legs on the guys shoulders and choked him that was very set up and is highley unlikely and not worth the effort in a real combat scenario.

Remember that not only is this choreographed, it's the Royal Marines hand to hand "display team" - meaning they're going to have a routine including over elaborate dramatic WWE stuff for the purpose of wowing to recruit people. You can bet they don't teach a lot of the stuff we see here.....

Love it, everyone in the comment section is suddenly a martial artist. This is a demonstration and they used a lot of grappling which is the most realistic form of self defence you can do without ripping someones ball sack off. Were you expecting them to do ninja flips?
@guywilmet2090
@guywilmet2090 7 жыл бұрын
what use is grappling ,armbars etc..when you're falling down on the concrete and your enemy's buddy is kicking your head in pretending it's a football...all this grappling stuff just isn't realistic SD wise whatever BJJ,MMA and other JJ fans may pretend running around in their loose dogi's.SD is also hitting someone in the balls,throat etc...biting,eyegouging ,....which can be simulated under stress conditions otherwise it's just BS.I've done TMA for years and it's only when I took a class of Krav Maga that I realised I was wasting my time...TMA and MMA can teach you some techniques,conditioning and discipline but when It comes to SD it's useless due to the fact that training in dojo's,in your shorts,dogi's,boxing or fighting in rings/octagon is totally different than fighting for your life in the real world under stress.

Mostly knees to the groin, elbows to the throat, head butts, hammer fist strikes to the base of the back of the skull and use your rifle as an impact tool (if you have a stoppage while room clearing as an example).

Much respect to the Royal Marines. This video however is embarrassing. I completely understand the difference between a demo and sparring not to mention the reality of combat but a lot of the techniques in this video are old-school showy flashy garbage. First of all throw some kit on. 40-70lbs of armour and ammo will eliminate the jumping flying moves. Second lets see some more Kali, Thai, Silat and techniques that the rest of the world's Armys are using (there might have been a little here and there ill admit). There is a reason the world's security forces (Police and Military) have all independently gravitated towards a similar approach to edged and impact weapon training.
