Imagine... Some random person taking a walk through the North Pole and manages to film a submarine breaching the icy surface.

Just thinking, in a decade or two we'll be talking of Submarine surfacing at the North Pole and wonder where the ice is.

does the sub have to surface for some reason or could it just be under the ice all the time?
@NicholasPHatton
@NicholasPHatton 27 күн бұрын
I think they’re practicing surfacing through the ice as some of the newer subs have been re-enforced for this capability. I think that this gives them a strategic advantage, as they can strike from unexpected locations and the ice would shield the sub from detection from airborne thermal imaging equipment. Nuclear subs rarely have to surface at all, the duration that they spend underwater is largely dictated by the supplies that they can keep on board for their sailors.

Craig I think US influences UK a little bit more..Google Tizard mission. This is why they follow US policy since. Maybe the UK has now become a colony?
@siem3113
@siem3113 6 жыл бұрын
I dont think you know what the word colony means (dont think theres thousands of Americans leaving to start a home in UK) . UK has independent nuclear arsenal and the means of launching a nuclear strike anywhere in the world at any time. It is a small but well equipped and well trained military capable of world wide operations, a smaller version of the US military if you will, which is why the nations work so well together when they go into a conflict. Also if you think its a tourist nation thats bullshit who in their right mind would go on holiday in the UK. Go somewhere nicer. Its cold, bad food, worse weather. Its an economic nation being positioned right next to Europe and having close ties to former colonies it works quite well, sells a lot of military goods as well mind you making a lot of the worlds military gear, like the american Bradley IFV, M777 Howitzer is manufactured by BAE systems and their subsidiarys. In terms of foreign policy it falls between the US and European nations, having closer ties to America than the rest of Europe, however it should also be noted Afghanistan and Iraq are both to some extent former British territories and Britain likes having wars in former territories, or peacekeeping in former territories as the politicians would say.
