I'm looking forward to comparing the new Fram Endurance FE10575, to the Amsoil EA017, to the Royal Purple 20-500. I like the idea of the thread side bypass on the RP, as it prevents the dirty engine oil from flowing past the already contaminated filter surface to reach the upper bypass. So to take the path of least resistance, the RP allows the oil to come through the anti-drain back valve straight to the bypass (as you mentioned around the 9:50 mark). Apart from the thread side bypass, the RP looks similar to the Amsoil. But you gotta love that large gasket held firmly in place. I think I've found my 2 choices, either the endurance or the RP! Another excellent review WCW!

Of all the brand filters I have ever seen the Royal Purple brand has to he most variance in bypass valve usage. Some have a dome end bypass built in with the leaf spring, some have it built into the inside of the filter through the dome end endcap, and now apparently they are using the thread end bypass (this video was the first time I have ever seen one of these built into an endcap, let alone on a RP filter period). I do know that all RP filters are rated for 625 burst strength which is impressive.

The Coil Spring is now obsolete. Most all automotive oil filter manufacturers have now switched to the stamped retainer -- The Coil S,pring was found to damage the cannisters, and the Coil Spring takes more energy to produce, so is LESS environmentally-freiendly. Funny how we get attached to things like a Coil Spring. SMH.

@@jeffkortsch8276 And which major automotive oil filter manufacturers are still using the coil spring TODAY , Jeff !?? I think you'll find that Automotive Oil Filters have evolved quite a bit over the years, and that part of that eveolution was the fact that the Coil Spring was found to DISTORT the CANNISTERS, and the stamped steel retainer was incorporated into the evolutionary mix. Ergo, the coil spring is Dead. Fini. Kaput. Sorry for your loss.

What many videos do not show is how Motorcraft Filters are one of only few companies using a thread end bypass, Wix, Napa, and Royal Purple all had outstanding design and when they got bought out, the designs changed and in my opinion they are a cheap design. No longer made with highest quality. Royal Purple Filters, Napa Gold and Wix have all changed from a nice steel base plate with thread end bypass, Silicone ADBV, evenly spaced holes and steel coil spring, solid canister casing. It would be interesting comparison how they have changed. Now Purolator is better than those. I currently use Motorcraft although I know they use a leaf spring and the Purolator is a decent design, the Boss is nice and it shows filter media is better than Motorcraft. Not a fan of dome end bypass. Many new oil filters displayed in videos don't even come close to what RP and Napa Wix used to be years ago. The new ACDelco E core is an embarrassment. Why do these companies think they can change a proven design and still have a loyal following for a cheaper product. They must think customers don't notice. I expected K and N to be higher quality, the dome end bypass design is cheap and does not look built with durability.

They probably leave the hole in the leaf spring for economies of scale because I’ll bet they probably turn out several thousand of those a day. And I Donely that they probably didn’t take into account some maniac popping open their filter and looking at the leaf spring with a pointless hole in it lol. Royal purple does make some pretty nice things although they’re not cheap. I do like that upper bypass valve as well. That’s a pretty slick design.

Leaf spring has a hole 'cause the company that makes this filter makes others that have the bypass valve at the bottom. Use the same spring instead of a separate part for upper bypass valve models.

5:23 using one with the hole in it reduces costs, because they don't have to use different machine set up to make ones without holes. It also helps streamline switching between brands of filters so it's one less thing they would have to switch out on the assembly line.

Appears to be identical to an Amsoil. The purple anti drain back valve is a unique touch! They more than likely only stamp one spring for all filters, that’s why it more than likely has the hole. Next Friday you should open up a Fram Drive, It seems to be a lower price filter from Advance Autoparts, but seems to be higher quality than the force “Tough guard” lol.

Higher quality than the Fram Force??? Exactly what are you basing that statement on? Someone has cut a Fram Drive open and posted pics on BITOG and it appears to be a repackaged Supertech with the felt endcaps that can easily be peeled off. Try doing that with any other Fram branded can folter.

@@WhipCityWrencher I saw 99% but did not see or hear the micron rating. I went back and yes I missed you saying 25 and above micron rating. Most filters will give a mileage. As the percent drops so does the micron rating. So I think at 98.7% it should be 20 microns which is the same as Amsoil. But I’m not sure. I’ve been paying $30 for Amsoil filter after tax and shipping. I’m just gonna buy a Royal Purple from now on. I think it’s the same.

the only correct idea and design of the filter: dirt that gets on the outer surfaces of the filter element will never be washed off when the engine is started and will not get back through the bypass valve. But: saving money without putting an adequate coil spring is just awful !!!
@SlikLizrd
@SlikLizrd 2 жыл бұрын
YEP. The Inlet-End By-Pass-Valve is the real deal. However, those Coil Springs have been replaced because they distorted the filter cannisters. The Stamped Spring is there because IT DOES A BETTER JOB.
