Thanks for the video. I have tried the 18 year old and I’m waiting to try my 21 year old Royal Salute. I love the Mizunara Ultimate Cask Collection 18 year old which I bought at auction so, not full price. I would buy it again for about £65 at auction as opposed to £200. I have not seen any comparisons of the three whiskies you tried. Keep up the good work.

Opened a bottle for our 21st anniversary tonight. This is thé tastiest whisky we've had thus far. This is head and shoulders above a JW Blue. I love my Islays and my favs are Laph 18yo and Lag 16 plus all the rest. So this is a departure from my usual. And like the 21yo Redbreast, this knocked it out of the park. Like waaaay out. Great review. My mark is definitely higher though.

Great video! RS has changed bottling with the sapphire blue now always being the 21 signature blend. Emerald green is the malts blend and obsidian black is the lost blend. All at least 21 years old. Estancia range out too, current edition is estancia in a terracotta flagon!

Loved the vid, I love the 21yo, but I only buy it at the Duty Free store, $80 US there, so yes, I stock up, I have shared this with numerous folks, and like you guys stated, it is one that most people will enjoy.

This is $93 USD in Alberta. That seems worth it to me. And if my experience with the Chivas 18 is any indication, this should be really quite nice.

The younger age statements of the Chivas Royal Salute 21yo is marketed under Chivas Regal,, they have a 12yo & 18yo core line.

Great video guys. I’ve always been interested to try more blends, but I’ve yet to find one I actually like (Compass Box and Hibiki excluded). However it’s just hard to want to drop the $ when there’s so many single malts to try.

Nothing taste better or taste worst than JW blue. It's designed to be non-offensive to the taste buds. It's a bottle that you want to see at every wedding party because it's a "take no chance " bottle.

Tried this RS21, nice on the nose and a subtle oiliness to my liking but what caught me by surprise is, the next day, when I walked into the room, the aroma lingers!

Price for a 21 yo to value is about as good as you'll find with this one! Sure, there are better 21yo single malts out there, but at a price!

In Viet Nam the RS 21 is only around 2.4 million VNĐ which is around 115 to 120 USD and the JW Blue label is only around 3.4 million VNĐ which is around 170 USD so people drink a lot of this RS 21 and JW blue quite often here

This and JW Blue is made primarily for people who don’t usually drink whisky. In blinds this and the JW Blue regularly loses to bottles that cost under $99.

I'm almost in agreement with you Steve-O 😄 ... I like JW Blue but I'm not to impress with blends other than Monkey Shoulder & Chivas Regal 18. I feel like both are excellent blends.

Just the lack of enthusiasm that I see from you guys is enough to tell me not to consider this. 200 usd could get me three more engaging bottles and I would feel much less buyers remorse. I feel the same about JW blue and many Compass Box offerings. Have you guys tried any of the SMWS blends. Keep up the great work.

The different coloured bottles are to replicate the jewels on the Crown of our Monarch and not just as you said a marketing ploy

They updated the formula back in 2020! Please stay away from older bottlings unless you find an 80s or 90s. I normally purchase this one however I have been saving up for a 4k tv set! This is my favorite blend right next to the original Johnnie walker gold label 18 from the 2000s. The current JW line up is God afwul! Unless I find a 2000s bottling. My dream mini scotch bar would have glenmorangie 18, JW Gold 18, and the RS 21! Highland park 18, Dalwhinne 15, glendronach 15, are over rated harsh ones!

You're not wrong about those older, Spode decanter bottlings. (1983 or earlier.) I've picked up a couple at auction and they range from fantastic to sublime.

Purely based on the colour and shape of the bottle (since I don't own a Bentley), I wouldn't go for this scotch. It feels like a marketed blend. And for me, the charm and the appeal of whisky is the fact that it has a great history to it. Old distilleries, the (scottish) heritage and traditional use of ingredients add a lot to the experience of drinking a glass of whisky. And to be really honest... it feels like that the three of you feel the same way. It feels like that this channel isn't sponsered and that I'm looking to an honest review of men who appreciate the drink, so don't be afraid to adress these subjects. There's a lot of authenticity being lost in these chaotic times. Please keep this wonderful product real. In the end it will pay itself off.

It’s a blend very connected with the Royal family however the history is most certainly there. Brand home is Strathisla (the oldest working distillery in the highlands. RS is a luxury product and thus the flaggon is an indication that it’s a step up. Marketing is very much important for all whisky but don’t let this put you off a terrific product!

Good question! Two very different flavour profiles and price points. All depends on occasion. The extra 13 range is very innovative with Sherry, rum, tequila, rye editions - all worth a try! RS is a slight step up in price and a different mouth feel. So although same brand home in strathisla, Chivas and royal salute are very much different!

From what I understand, all the colours have the same whisky. The bottle is cosmetic only.

This sounded good, but I just can't get behind that price. Sure, you pay for the angel share, and the years in storage. Still, that is a lot of coin for a blend. Especially when I can get Dewar's Double Double 21 for $65US.

I lump these whisky in the same bracket as Bose, Supreme, Vertu, Hermes... wanna scream money without know how? bust out a Royal Salute to a dinner gathering and watch your lady pals start snapping photos of it for their instagram feeds. But hey, job done.

What~? It’s super soft and palatable and is quite up there in my books. I drink blue almost on a daily for this reason alone. Subtle hints of flavor that carries from start to finish without the hard oak in your face.

I'm simply not willing to pay $300+ (CDN) for "subtle hints of flavor" and "soft and palatable", lol. I just don't see any value in buying it when the Green label is much more complex, a fraction of the price, and even bottled at a higher abv.

@@Geoff-84 The Blue is the sheer definition of Smooth! Dunno if you like complexity in your drink but i like a more straightforward taste. The smoky presentation is an acquire taste for sure. I may have mis-phrased smooth for subtle. But every time I offer it to my guests blind, they say “mmm this is good, what is it?”

I don't see any justification in the price of 'Blue', hence my 'garbage value' assessment and that it's not far off from a good entry level whisky. Not saying 'Blue' is bad, just bad for the price ;) It's like if you bought a Toyota for the price of a Lambo.
