Translation notes
(Because Kanon69 likes to have double meaning lyrics. I love it but it's hard to translate without losing the meaning. So I'm going to explain the best as I can here.
Mostly going to explain the kanji in which there is a furigana on it. If you are familiar with Royal Scandal then I'm sure you understand what I mean.)
¹海月
The word 'jellyfish' in japanese has two different set of kanji, 水母 and 海月. However most commonly, katakana is used, クラゲ (kurage). I believe Kanon69 deliberately choose 海月 because 海(umi, sea) and 月 (tsuki, moon) mean sea moon. That's why I translate it as moon jellyfish (it's also a species of jellyfish!) to convey the metaphor better since the next sentence has 'starfish'. So y'know, moon and star.
²荒潮(あらし)
The kanji reads as 'arashio'. 荒 (ara, wild) and 潮 (shio, tide). Meaning rough tide. However in the song, luz sings it as 'arashi' (嵐, あらし, storm), so I believe they intended it for double meaning.
³泡沫(あわ)
The kanji reads as 'utakata'. 泡 (awa) and 沫 (matsu) both mean foam, bubbles, froth. Together they make utakata, meaning something ephemeral, fleeting, transient. In the song, luz sings it as 泡 (あわ, awa). I choose to translate it as sea foam because that's what the little mermaid changed to if she didn't get the prince in the story. In the japanese version of the story they use 'awa' too, cmiiw. I believe Kanon69 wants to convey how fleeting it is her (the girl in the song) existence with the double meaning.
⁴航海(こうかい)
The kanji reads as 'koukai'. 航 (kou, navigate) and 海 (umi, sea). Meaning sailing, voyage. However the word 'koukai' also have different meaning with other set of kanji, that is 後悔 (koukai, regret). 後 (kou, after) and 悔 (kai, regret). I believe this is another double meaning word.
⁵海布(め)
This one is so fucking hard. Sorry for my language.
The kanji is from old japanese and mandarin. I believe it's not commonly use, cmiiw. It reads as 'me' means seaweed, kelp. 海 (umi, sea) and 布 (fu, cloth). So I believe this is another dual meaning word, seaweed as cloth from the sea.
⁶細波(なみ)
The kanji reads as 'sazanami'. 細 (sai, thin) and 波 (nami, wave). Meaning small wave, ripples. In the song, luz sing it as nami which means wave.
There is another interesting thing about this whole sentence too. However don't take it seriously since I'm not sure about this one.
貴方が落とす細波(なみ)ですら、私の世界じゃ全部たからもの。
Anata ga otosu nami desura, watashi no sekai ja zenbu takaramono.
Even the ripples (waves) you create, in my world, they are all treasures.
In the first half of the sentence if we ignore the kanji and just keep how it is pronounced then tweak it a little, it become :
Anata ga otosu namida sura, watashi no sekai ja zenbu takaramono.
Even the tears you shed, in my world, they are all treasures.
I believe this is the real reason why they bother to pronounced it as 'nami' in the first place while having 'sazanami' as the kanji. Since tears are kinda small waves.
⁷瞼(め)
The kanji reads as 'mabuta' meaning eyelids. But for some reasons, luz pronounced it as 'me' meaning eyes which got different kanji 目. This part is also hard to translate since there is no indication of whose eyelids/eyes it is and who is infatuated with who and also the word 'nobosete' could also mean 'dizzy, flushed, to lose one cool, obsessed'. So the sentence could be both means :
Infatuated by the profile behind my eyelids.
Which means Nina is infatuated by Albert, she even seeing his profile when she closed her eyes.
Flushed by the profile behind those eyes.
Which means Nina became flushed/dizzy witnessing in Albert's eyes there is Alicia/Chelsea.
Or maybe I just overthinking it idk.
⁸強欲(わがまま)
The kanji reads as 'gouyoku'. 強 (tsuyo, strong) and 欲 (yoku, desire). Meaning greed. In the song, luz pronounced it as 'wagamama' meaning selfish. Personally I think the word 'wagamama' is to fit the princess role Nina is having at the end of the song. I associate wagamama with the image of spoiled princess. However I believe Kanon69 also use gouyoku to describe how Nina is now having strong desire to get Albert rather than just become sea foam.
There are still some things hidden in the lyrics but I talked to much already just about the translation. So I won't talk about the lore. For now. Nina please, I want your MV.
For my closure of this long explanation, I wish luz a smooth rehabilitation and recovery.

Honestly, this song makes me very excited for Nina’s PV to come out. Nina’s profile stated that she dislikes herself and her cowardice, but her genuine and heartfelt love really shine throughout her song. She’s very cute! While I heard this, my first thought was. “Oh. This is basically going to end like Luz’s Angelfish. Where she stabs her loved one to have him to herself.” (Her profile states her hobby is to collect knives 😭 Like… if that’s not a dead giveaway, I’m not sure what else is.) But after thinking about it. I wonder if just like the original little mermaid, she will be unable to go through with it, jumping into the water to become seafoam. There’s a part later on where you translated it as “The girl begins to forget, that fairy tales seem possible.” I’m curious if she will jump in the water after being unable to kill him, and Prince Albert, (who might not even know of her existence before that moment.) will jump in after her. Making her feel like a princess in a fairy tale in that moment alone, as they both die. I’m just really speculating what might potentially happen in the PV at this point. I might be so far off that it’s not even funny. Lmao. I can see Prince Albert being gentle enough to try and save some young girl. But maybe she just stabs him anyway, who knows. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m excited to see what will be released after anti-queen of hearts. Oh my god that is very interesting and could really happen. What if they both jumped. There is this really old anime about Little Mermaid I watched when I was a kid and I remembered they both jumped into the sea and hugged each other like that too 😭

My theory is that "Mermaid Theater" is from the 'original timeline' were Alicia(Chelsea) grew as the daughter of the actress Lorena: Is possible Nina saved Albert like in the fairytale & was going to call help, but Alicia (here her role is the 'human princess') found him alone in the beach so he belived she was the one that saved him & start to court her (in Anti-Queen there a memory of Lorena watching Alicia dancing with Albert), so either Nina try to kill Albert or Albert understand Nina is the one that saved him & jump to save her... 🤔

That and in the original timeline Albert marries Chelsea, so unless Albert really went “yolo im going to marry Chelsea anyway lol!!!!” It’s probably not the same universe. But you are free to come back here and rub it in my face if i’m wrong when the PV comes out LOL. My (delusional) assumption for now is somewhat on par with yours however: >Nina saves Albert, albert who is waking up, can’t properly see the face of the person who saved him, but hears her voice > Nina flounders around Albert, too shy to interact with him, watching him from the sidelines and is “unable to raise her voice” >Albert meets Chelsea in Bittersweet, is enchanted by her voice which reminds him of the voice from when he was saved and falls in love immediately > Albert invites Chelsea to the ball. Nina gets the confidence to face Albert and go to his ball >Nina sees Albert with Chelsea, loses her will to live and decides to end her life by drowning >Albert recognizes (???) nina and jumps after her when she jumps The knife collecting honestly might be a red herring. (Or not at all. Lol.) overall I think you and I are on the same wavelength on what might happen in the PV. We could end up being really wrong though. 😭 We will have to wait and see.

hi!! thank you for the work you put into translating this song 🫶🫶 though I do have one question, in translation note 7 you mentioned albert being the one nina’s in love with and i was a bit confused because i hadn’t even heard about it before. so i just wanted to ask like if it’s canonical or if you put two and two together since albert is a prince and stuff.

Mostly a theory but with believable proofs. In Magic Ring Night there is a newspaper. The title is "Prince Albert Is Missing" with a ship as the picture and "Little Atlantis" bellow it. So I think it's safe to assume that's when Nina met Albert for the first time. He went missing cuz he drown and Nina saved him like in Little Mermaid, or something similar like that. Then when Nina went to see the prince after dressing herself up, it is said that the prince is captivated by a beauty resembling coral. Coral is pretty much associated with the colour pink so I assume that beauty would be Chelsea. Then that scene would be Bittersweet when Chelsea is brought by Albert to sing at a party. However now it's from Nina's perspective. Also one more tiny thing. Probably just me looking into it too much though. Both Bittersweet and Mermaid Theater protag refers themselves as "greedy" nearing the end of the song, using the same kanji 強欲. So I really think the prince mentioned in this song is really Albert. Since so far he's the only one connected with mermaid's theme (ship, atlantis). Edit : Of course, for it to be canon we still need the MV 😭
