Dear Diane. I used to teach high school and one day the female assistant principal came around and got on some of the girls for their "short shorts." After she left I showed the students this video on youtube. THEY LOVED IT. The girls especially. They related to it and I think you even inspired them. Take care and trust me, your memory and this song will last for centuries!!!!

That's Bob Gaudio on piano, who co-wrote this song with the rest of the members. He went on to being a founding member of The Four Seasons after he met Frankie Valli. From there he wrote most all of their hits like Sherry, Rag Doll, Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, Who Loves You, Oh What A Night & more. He later wrote or produced for Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Roberta Flack, Frank Sinatra and others. He's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Not a bad run after starting out with this groovy & catchy confection!

It was originally supposed to be only an instrumental, titled "Short Shorts". At the recording session, the producer insisted, that The Royal Teens write some lyrics for it, so during a break, they quickly put some words to it. The title, "Short Shorts" popped into one of their heads, when they were cruising along and saw a couple of girls walking out of a candy store wearing rather short, for the 1950's, cut off blue jeans.

Anyone else laughing at how the kids in the audience are not clapping in time?
@sparky60863 жыл бұрын
Very sloppy editing. ...The story goes, that the audience was filmed on a different day and was clapping in time to a different song, perhaps even a different band. To go along with the narrative of the story, the editors spliced in the film of that audience, figuring, that it was just a drive in "B" movie, so they weren't going to spend the extra time and money to film an audience clapping in time to the song. It was a throw away, low production value movie for teenagers, featuring music which at the time, was seen by the adult producers as a passing fad. The forlorn loking guy standing behind the audience, is supposed to be an old school, pre-Rock & Roll crooner type singer watching himself displaced by the latest music trend.

Yes, Bill is now sadly deceased. He had a long and successful career as an engineer. I worked with him at a Midwestern manufacturer and he developed some heart problems as he aged. He remained in a small town here in the Midwest and sadly passed away just a couple years after retirement. He's buried in Rochelle Illinois.

Well...the family of Carmine D'Amico (RIP) claimed he was the one playing the guitar on the record. His son Joseph D'Amico is a musician and is on Facebook..

A shining example of why American culture in the 1950s was the pinnacle of achievement in the entire sweep of human history.

hebneh Those people had to be born,as The Pill had yet to be invented,Roe v Wade had not yet been ruled,the school system encouraged creativity rather than inculcating the idea to vote Democrat,AFDC was decades away,etc.All these things have dumbed down the USA.

The heavily unionized and dictatorial Education establishment were the guilty people in steadily dumbing down the USA.

1:02 - You have to love all those rhythmless Jersey guineas clapping on the downbeat.... ROFLMAO.

This clip was from the 1958 film, "Let's Rock". The kids were off beat & out of time clapping, because they were filmed at a different time, possibly listening to a different song, if listening to anything at all, and an editor just spliced them in, so it's the film editor's fault.
