Best meke wesi I've ever seen. The precision, the strength in the movements, the chant and story told with the coordinated synchronicity in the movements are just amazing.

Yes I think they're from Moturiki. Oh no my mistake Moturiki warriors haven't got the finesse, power & coordination, these warriors are from Vanua Levu... 😆

This the story of the world war 2 [WWII] between The British/Allied forces and the Japanese Fijians soldiers were put right in the front line of this ground battle against the Japanese in the Solomon Islands.

Noooo...this meke tells the story of when Tonga tried to invade Vanua Levu the 2nd largest island of Fiji. Warriors were sent to battle it out with the Tongans on Taveuni Island where the Fijian warriors massacred them, this meke recounts the battle tactics that beat the Tongans. That night the Fijian warriors feasted on bread fruit and Tongans.

No Togan pronounce V as Fi. Viti comes from the word Vitika which means break.
@johnknox6772 жыл бұрын
@k Vitika is Fijian word. Meaning to clear the way by breaking branches.

@@jmjm1920 The Original name Of Fiji is Viti. Long for Vitia or Vitika in some regions. Fiji is older than Tonga and Tonga didnt name Fiji. Tonga didnt discover Fiji you dumbass. You are everywhere trying to claim everything about Fiji is Tongan😂😂😂. Are you not embarassed?.

The men's meke that was performed for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was poorly coordinated. Hopefully when the next visit by the head of the Royal family takes place the men's meke will be an A1 performance.

I have lived in Vanua Levu practically all of my life, and I am also a pure bred Vanua Levu person (from Cakau, vasu i Bua, born and bred in Macuata). All the meke wesis here, whether they be from Cakaudrove or Macuata, are chanted in the Bua dialect. And it gives the sound of the chant that special ring which makes it so pleasant to hear.
